I would consider changing your program to preserve strength as you indicated below with losing a lot of muscle last go around. You will not engage both muscle fibers (Type 1 and Type 2).
I would suggest Lyle McDonalds Generic Bulking Routine or Westside for Skinny Bastards or 5/3/1
All VERY Good routines.
Read your first sentance. TRUE RED FLAG, if you lost a lot of muscle last go around and did a high volume program, guess what, was it optimal? no. its not.
Training heavy is very important to retain as much muscle mass as possible because you have to remember when training heavy you are activating more Type I Muscle Fibers compared to Type II or fast twitch muscle fibers (hypertrophy/higher reps) expanding excess glycogen from higher volume or higher reps is one of the biggest myths in the fitness industry. Think about all the girls that do that high rep for tonining programs, lose some water weight from dropping carbs and think they make progress. 4-6 weeks later they hit a wall and then have no where to go from starving themselves, not training heavy and lose a ton of muscle. You can do lots of research via Layne Norton, and Alan Aragon and you will see exactly why. Think about Layne and his PHAT split (which i only suggest for those who have trained serious for 3-4 years) why does he incorporate heavy and hypertrophy work? Exaxtly as Meme said, some accessory is fine but the bulk should be heavy workload, and as you increase the cut the volume has to be cut for compensation and recovery. (This also includes if you increase cardio volume has to drop for expanded energy burned)
wow thanks a ton man, i'll look into wendlers i think, as thats been interesting me lately. i didnt do a high volume routine last time i cut, i just cut carbs to pretty much 0 right off the bat and then cut calories and added a ton of cardio. i dropped 22lbs in 5 weeks and thought that i was good. then decided to eat completely out of wack once i was done with it. basically, im looking to do it right this time
i try to rep back 1.5k+, pm me if i miss you

Cut carbs right to 0? Why?
thats horrible You should keep carbs as high as possible when dieting, Throwing your kcals to nothing right away = Metabolic Damage.
You even stated you lost as much weight as you could in 5 weeks, which is not smart. Losing around 1lb a week is optimal for muscle loss prevention and also a healthy metabolism which will aid when cycling back in calories and rebounding off your diet.
More cardio and less calories is not ALWAYS the solution to a cut, or drastically making huge swings in kcals, this will cause a ton of mental problems and also cravings.

Layne is a good dude. Once I get where I'm going there are tons of things I want to do Layne like. 4 week bulk, 2 week cut, PHAT (again). I am coming from obesity and have made it a goal to get where I'm going hell or high water.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!
Pretty good so far, just about depleted. Waiting to take my EC since I have to stay up for work.

The Solution is really bringing good stuff in here, finishing off my Wendler 5-3-1 this week (did a 4 week run) and I will probably look into starting PHAT next week
