Todays news events are so fuked up. I cannot fathom doing this to kindergartners, ridiculous.
And then the Chinese news story of the man who stabbed 22 elementary children today...

I hope they rip his balls out and make him eat them for nutrition. Then cut his limbs off one by one and force him to eat his own limbs to survive.RIP mainsqueeze530

It just doesn't even feel like Christmas anymore. So much has happened month after month over the last year or so. Then you think about all the parents that lost their children today. Not having them home tonight for dinner. To take baths, to hear their laugher. The sense of not feeling needed anymore. The pain is immeasurable.

agreed
Same applies to Chanukah. 7th night. Don't care anymore when two horrible acts happen like this.. After today, as you stated, and as I feel. Numb. I can't even imagine what those kids who witnessed that, their parents, and of course the parents of the kids killed today are feeling or not feeling right now.
Saw an interview earlier of a parents who came down the hill from the fire station with their kids, shaken but alive..then parents came down w/o theirs, eyes bloodshot, red rimmed, and beyond grief, sadness, distraught, and horror filled their eyes. Pastors were there too.
Goodnight guys, hold your kids extra right tonight. I'm about to go hold mine.

Exactly. Forget presents, just being able to spend time safely with your family is all that counts
Likewise man. Like Z, I can only imagine being in your position
I remember being nervous about going to school in '02 and my friends mom not wanting to get out of her car to pump gas because of the DC sniperBrothers of Metal

Man, that DC sniper stuff was just one of the worst things ever. How they could never catch this guy. The video's of people running out of gas because they were to afraid to pump their own gas.
Just got back from the gym tonight. Had one of the most difficult workouts. From mad angry to why. To thinking about the kids, the parents, etc. About my own daughter at the mall this week were that incident occurred. My arms feel so over trained right now because of all the emotion.Last edited by ZBlacktt; 12-14-2012 at 07:25 PM.

I've tried really hard to not comment about what happened today.
The only thing I can think about is if it may ever happen to my family.

I think I remember the DC sniper, was that the one where they had drilled holes in the rear of a car and were shooting out the back of it?

^ ^ ml - You are correct.
Evening UG.
Took my 13 year old daughter to a school dance tonight and was actually happy to see the heavy police chaperone presence on sight.
Another thing I never really put much thought in was the permanent police presence at my oldest daughter's High School.★cVc★

On a good note, gas here dropped under $3 a gallon. It's $2.99 last I checked the other day. But that was the lowest I've seen around.

Good morning UG,
Didn't get a chance to post yesterday about the tragedy in CT, but I followed it while at work. I can't imagine the grief that the parents and community up there are feeling. This one has affected me more than any other, just thinking of those kids Being a parent now, my whole rationale of thinking is different in situations like this. When I got home last night I gave my little girl a huge hug and kiss. I hope the families are eventually able to find some sort of closure."Following our instinct not a trend

I'm glad that measures were taken to make the parents and children feel safe, but I just can't imagine what our world has come to when a "heavy police chaperone presence" is needed for a school dance for 13'ish year olds. Are we that out of control as a society?

These measures were in place long before this latest event. I don't really know when they began but I'm glad they did.
Out of control...? I'd say there are enough bad elements to justify the need for security measures.
I'm not sure about your experience but I've seen enough here and in other countries to know that it's not getting better.★cVc★

For the safety of all involved, I too am glad that those measures are in place. I hope you didn't misunderstand me. I was just lamenting how sad it is that they were necessary in the first place.
And regarding the out of control - think about it: 100 years ago nobody would have thought that a teenage school dance would need an armed police presence. But we have changed as a society so much to make that almost a foregone conclusion to the point that if there wasn't an armed police presence, parents and children may comment on their absence or even leave over safety concerns.
I know it's not getting better - that's my point. How bad does it have to get before we say "enough is enough" as a society and treat the social ills that plague us? or maybe it's just cyclical and the inevitable demise of our civilization is just part of the process of the human experience. There are plenty of "once great" civilizations in the past that fell apart and vanished due to various social and familial breakdowns. No great empire has stayed on the top forever - they all fell and in many cases due to social weakness from within.
