The 7 series is obviously one of BMW's flagships. And I can tell you from personal experience they are insanely nice vehicles. The only issue i take with the 7 series is that the resale is a pittance of the original sticker, even on vehicles that are 2 years old! It's not uncommon to see a gently used 7 series for 30-40k less than MSRP a few years after the initial sale. Thats a bummer, imo because they truly are very nice vehicles.

In terms of luxury sedans, and resale I would say that the Mercedes sedans hold their value better, though its not by a lot. The downside to Mercedes, is maintenance can be a bitch. Not that BMW can't be. In general, your service costs are higher with the Mercedes.
