Cars are a money pit any way you slice it, but I'd rather roll the dice with maybe needing repairs on a slightly used car (maybe 2-4 years old) than guaranteed depreciation of a new car. If you own a used car for 5 years, unless you have a super lemon you probably won't pay 50% of the car's value in repairs - but a new car (depending on the model) is most likely worth 50% or less after 5 years.

It's like this:

Buy a new car, lose ton of value once off lot.

Buy a reliable used car and as long as your repair cost is less a month or year as you'd spend on car payments.

Ex: $1200 repair once

Or

$1200 in payments over 3-4 months THEN 8 more payments the rest of the year. do not want

But our last 2 cars we learned after the fact (even w/ an inspection & carfax) that they had body work done that we eventually had to fix b/c it was repaired improperly.

With our 2006 murano, if we keep it for another 3 years, it'll have ~180,000 kms on it at that time and then it becomes VERY diffucult to sell.....at least now its still worth something to sell it. It has a $1200 transfer case leak that we need to fix if we keep it. Who knows what will pop up after that.

Yep, I do as well. [b]But I can't change the feeling I get when I can't make it to the gym. Or it's like go today. Miss two days. Go the day after, then go the next Monday, then next Thursday.... Because when I goto the gym.[b] I always look to maintain the weight I normally lift. For that, you need to stay in shape and be mentally focused or something bad's going to happen. But I like to plan as much as possible. Just doesn't work out that much, lol.

I used to get excited when I could upgrade my car. Now I hate b/c its a never ending cycle. By brand new today. 5 years from now it'll be time to trade in and worth 30% of its original value. Buy used, and you have no idea how much $ you'll spend on repairs down the road.
