I dont let that stuff bother me. The chances of dying in a mass shooting are next to none. I worry more about auto accidents or illnesses. Its good to have a general idea of what you would do in a situation like that, but you never know what you'll actually do until you are actually faced with that situation. More than likely it wont be anything like what you planned.

Stress training is a good way to further your confidence under fire. That being said, reaction under live fire can vary based on readiness, level of training, familiarity withyour surroundings as well as your equipment and so on.
You're absolutely right though. I've seen people talk a big game then cower like puppies when sh*t gets hot and vice versa.

How many end of the worlds are we at now? Man, those go back decades. It's the abuse of our rights by the unstable that will effect current law. I don't live in fear myself. I just fear my children will be caught up in it somewhere. Because like yours, they are teens at the malls, stores, schools, movies, etc alone.

Remember the Y2K hype?
Like you, I always consider my kids' safety when away from my care, but it's extremely rare they're alone. My oldest doesn't go to the mall/movies/stores without some type of adult chaperone. Over protective to be sure but considering I grew up with relatively little parental supervision I know what can and will happen.

First they let the emotional uproar fester, then they play on the fears of the masses of sheep. Then they play the role of the grieving leader and blather on about the dangerous caches of weapons that are so easily accessible to the unstable element. (Really 4-5 guns equal a cache? obviously they've never seen a true cache of weapons)
Finally they dredge up failed proposals and label any opposition as unsympathetic or gun nuts and then try to force it down our throats saying it will make us safer.
I think I fear the damage that they'll do more than anything else.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/12/15/world/...ack/index.html
Hong Kong (CNN) -- On Friday morning, a man walked through the entrance of an elementary school and, without warning, began ruthlessly cutting down children at the school. Before he was subdued, nearly two dozen were hit.
While it sounds like the horrific massacre in Connecticut, this attack took place about 8,000 miles away in central China. And while several of the victims were reported in critical condition, none of the 22 children were killed. The 36-year-old suspect in China -- which has strict gun control laws -- attacked the children with a knife, according to local reports.
"The huge difference between this case and the U.S. is not the suspect, nor the situation, but the simple fact he did not have an effective weapon," said Dr. Ding Xueliang, a Harvard-educated sociologist at the University of Science and Technology in Hong Kong.
I know people who own guns want to keep them, but just understand that it will cost lives. Hopefully it never claims the life of someone you hold dear (just other people's loved ones). My opinion is that the cost is too high. I respect your right to a different opinion though.

An opinion not fact. Sounds like the rhetoric gun control nuts spew, but that's just my opinion *cough* based on many articles and postings I've read *cough*
If that's how you feel then I'm truly glad you don't own any guns. Interestingly, I own a few guns and they've not been the cause for harm of a single soul.
Your attempts at affecting an emotional reaction from me are fruitless. I've seen death and destruction up close and personal on more than a few separate occasions. I also know that had the populace of one area not been armed it would have been worse.
I grieve for the families of all victims of violent crime. I grieve for a nation so willing to give up fundamental freedoms for an illusion of safety and security even more.
Sleep tight knowing that help is just a phone call and a poorly funded, understaffed, 3+ minute drive away.
Ok, now I'm done.
If anyone feels a dire need to continue this feel free to pm me, I won't plug up the thread with this endless banter any longer.

Just remember that all the parents in China are hugging their children tonight instead of burying them. None of the kids in the China attack died although a similar number were attacked. I'm not even a parent yet but that simple fact resonates loudly for me.
And remember that the world has changed a lot since the founding fathers put pen to paper. The right to own slaves was a "fundamental freedom" back then too. Plenty of people said abolishing slavery would cause more harm than good or that it was their freedom. 150 years later we see the bigger picture. It is my belief that one day our children and grandchildren will look back at these barbaric times and wonder why we didn't change our entrenched beliefs sooner.

The one really doesn't have much to do with the other. Yes , I read the article and saw the point they tried to drive home but I'll do you one better...What if the principal and/or teachers had been armed? How many children/people could have been saved?

I'm not sure why you feel comparing the one to the other is appropriate but I know this isn't the first time you've tried to cloud a discussion with inappropriate and unnecessary comparisons.
Your stance is glaringly apparent and noted. I feel that any further discussion on this topic between you and I would be unproductive and unnecessary.

Was going to leave this alone but what's one more?
Please pardon the sarcasm it's not meant towards you but to make a point.
Hey Z, you know where the majority of mass shootings/stabbing are taking place?
Take your time ...
yep you guessed it...schools.
Guess what... by law you can't carry a weapon of any kind on school grounds. So that means law abiding gun owners are disarmed on school premises because they obey the law. Guess who doesn't...that's right, criminals and psychopaths. Interesting, isn't it?
A place where it's pretty much guaranteed no one has the equipment available to put up a, if necessary, lethal resistance. Kind of a preview on what it could be like elsewhere. Pretty damn terrifying if you ask me.
Kind of nullifies your post.
Oh but hey, let's rely on the police to defend us I mean they're always readily available, right...right?
So anyway.......
Anybody else finish their Christmas shopping yet?
