bro, Islam has a set of rules and guidelines from the Qur'an and Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). As a Muslim if we start using our own notions and ideas of things how can we be sure that it's not the sheitaan putting idea's into our heads and deviating us from the clear rules? For example the Prophet said "pray as you have seen me pray".. how is that not crystal clear guidance for the Ummah to follow? Not trying to get at you but Islam is about submission and accepting that Allah knows best and we are his servants, and servants don't do things their own way once they have been instructed of their duties and obligations.
Alhamdulilah you're a believer though so Allah has blessed you.

the hadith of the prophet cannot be ignored in islam, without it you wouldn't know how to actually pray, where the Qur'an came from, how to make wudu, many things about marriage etc. etc.
but that doesnt mean that you HAVE To listen to a certain schoolar and share his believes, search and learn for yourself if you want to, but do it with a sincere intention to make your iman stronger and Allah swt. will guide you Insha-Allah
respect his privacy, if he doesnt want to talk about and keep it among 4 eyes it's his right...maybe PM him if you really want to know too but with the intention to learn something, not with the intention to bash his believes or ideas...

The Quran is a holy book that prescribes a set of rules that we must abide too. Hadiths and sunnah are examples and ideas that we should follow/respect. Scholars bring out a deeper sense and meaning to islam. You must respect these ideas for the greater good. Arrogance and ignorance will only close you off for the worse

hadiths and sunnah can be a 'must' to abide to
we all know how to take wudu, and that the fard/must for wudu is at least: arms, face, head and legs--- how do we know this ? sunnah just an example...i do inform myself of certain things through certain schoolars of course because they are seeking for knowledge their whole lives and have a deeper understanding than me but that doesnt mean i will always share their thoughts and think the same way they do
for example, i will not accept that stoning is a valid form of punishment for adultery in islam, and i explained my points to syriankid here: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...#post927903833 and there are more reasons to these than just the ones i listed in there
many schoolars would eat me alive for this, but Allah swt. knows best and i will be judged for my deeds and they will be judged for their deeds, i have no problem with that
just keep it peaceful in here brothers

"O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful." Al-Ma'ida 5:6
Although I can't say I'm a Qur'anist, I am very weary about some of arguments that are thrown around in defense of hadiths.
To say things like you cannot know how to do x/y/z essential thing with only the Qur'an implies the incompleteness/imperfection of the Qur'an!
I know it is not the intention, but we shouldn't let such notions slide. Remember, Qur'an is hadith Muhammad (saw)!
Praying is also mentioned in the ayats of the Qur'an, although I cannot remember the precise verse at this time.
There is no purpose to rehash the time old debate of hadith or not, we simply must accept that there is valid concerns on both sides.
On both sides are driven by a zeal for Allah, it is simply on one side is a revivalist another is conservative.
In this matter, we must respect the other parties right to make ijtihad, and see that although the idea of practicing without hadith of the sahabas is shocking to us (with good reason too, what does such a thing imply of the generations of Muslims before us? They practiced a nullity and their good deeds void?)
Yet we should remember hadith has not been around forever, there were many a generation that were essentially Qur'anists in early Islam, so to accuse people of blasphemy would be an equal accusation whole generations.
We must remember that the salvation of each man is his own responsibility, it is only fair a man should make his own choices.
Allah knows best

Just read through the past few pages,
1. A beard if a fard
2. Music is not haram, Psalms for example is musical and the Quran is read (from my undestanding) in a rhythm.
3. Sunnah are the lessons given by Prophet Mohammad(S), i.e hadiths and instructions which we must abide by, with the Quran to be a whole muslim.
4. Scholars are people who read into depth about the quran and sunnah. Its not like they're making ideas out of the blue. Scholar's teachings abide MUST abide by the quran, and if not , it'll be quickly thrown away. What ever wrong i have said is from me and the shaytan, and what ever right i said is from Allah.
Edit: @Mooseladdin, you can search up various topics by Zakir Naik, very intelligent scholar and simpleLast edited by hussainizzle; 08-15-2012 at 11:27 PM.
