Enjoy the New Year and everything that's to come in 2013
This is one of the reasons Im excited to give floor presses a shot, getting more practice with that feeling of heavier weight. One of the issues I've had when trying to bench 220 is that it feels so damn heavy and it truly affects me. Hopefully some floor pressing with some heavy DBs will fix that.
Thanks Ryan, same to you!

Yea you never really go to a place like that expecting to leave as full as you would an AYCE place. It's just a different food experience, definitely worth it though. I definitely think it's worth it!

Yeah Bob, you can't really try to put a $ value on the food itself, it's more about the experience. I've only done it a few times but I feel like it's always money well spent (but that's also one of the things I enjoy and choose to spend my discretionary money on). Too bad El Bulli is closing up shop or I'd fly out there to road trip with you man .
Hope the stomach virus clears up.

Pretty much this (much better articulated than my opinion I might add lol).
Bulli regrettably closed up a while ago already, apparently the chef/owner was tired of life in the trenches and went on to do some teaching instead. There is another 3-michelin restaurant in the area called Celler de Can Roca which is supposed to be similar in overall style.

6 January 2012
Well it was my first day back in the gym since getting struck down by that virus, and coincidentally my first workout of 2013! The past couple of days I was in Barcelona with my dad and sister to do some sightseeing, hence the lack of updates, but it also explains my inability to get back into the gym earlier. Truth be told, given how I performed today I think going back any earlier would have been a bad idea. Past couple of days have just been sightseeing, eating, and taking my meds to nurse my frail self back to health
As a result of being out of the gym for "so long" I had to condense the last couple of workouts of my second cycle of 5's into one session for bench and squats. I prioritized the bench since that's what I suck at, did a couple of accessories, and moved straight onto squats where I didn't hit any extra reps, just the prescribed 5. It was actually a pretty tough session and I'm definitely not feeling 100% yet. Strong enough to train, though, and that's all that counts.
I'll whack some food pics up in a bit, it's my last night in Alicante and curry is on the menu!
Training - 531 Bench and Squats C2W1

It's a crying shame because apparently it was truly an experience. Though I think we can expect to see more 3-michelin molecular gastronomy type restaurants in the coming years, it seems to be really fashionable now. Now if you can get a table...
Keep me in the loop about London, by May I should be more or less done with my lion's share of my thesis work and could more than likely come up to see you, or equally you could come down to Bath (it IS actually on the UK tourist map)

You have inspired me even more to do a study abroad program to Spain when I go to biz-school. Possibly Madrid or Barcelona. I'm trying to get as fluent as possible to integrate Spanish language to take my communication skills to a whole new level to enhance business communication, so traveling would help a lot (and be really fun).
All that gelati, chocolate, curry, and the sightseeing sounds like it was great. Might convince my parents to have this as our next vacation since we are deciding on our next one.

Well you have made one hell of a decision there Anurag. The only way to truly grasp a language is to immerse yourself and that's only going to happen by getting out of the states (unless you want to go to Mexico haha). Having been to both Madrid and now Barcelona recently I would recommend Barca over Madrid. It's a little smaller and it's touristy in a more tasteful way if that makes sense. Still in your face, but less so than Madrid and prices are a bit lower.

8 January 2013
So second workout of 2013 done and even though I managed to hit all my prescribed reps + a bit extra I wasn't very happy with today's performance. I'm not worried though because yesterday's nutrition was a bit lacking and as a result I was probably a little low on gas heading into today. As I did on sunday I combined the first two workouts of my 3's week, doing OHP and deadlift on the same day. I'm going to continue doing this for the next 3 weeks until the end of my exams, since I need to minimize my time doing anything except studying, basically. This will mean some of my accessory work will take a back seat, and progress in the gym may not be optimal, but as long as I can hit my basic numbers through the exam period I'll be happy.
In other news, I decided to weigh in today for the first time since before the vacation and after 3 weeks of no macro tracking. Well it all went better than expected and I woke up at ~195 which actually means I got ever so slightly lighter of the holiday season, assuming this isn't an outlier. I'm pretty happy with that considering I more or less wanted to maintain without stressing about food, and both of those goals where firmly accomplished.
Even though the no macro tracking experiment was fun, as of today I'm back on my numbers for the simple reason that I want to start eating my giant sludge bowls again and the only way I can do that AND keep my weight steady is by weighing stuff out. Cereal is just too damn easy to eat. It's just nice to know that I can turn off bodybuilder-mode for an extended period without everything going to sh!t.
