I aim for 65% of my 1 RM with 3-4 sec negatives on tension days. So let's say 105 x 5 on power days, I use 70s on tension days.

Ever tried doing close grip?
I don't know many who train properly that can't close grip pulldown above their bodyweight.
I do both weighted chinups and close grip pulldowns above bodyweight on the same day, and it brings very good progress.
I'd just please ask you not to say anything about reverse pulldowns again please, as it's just straight out bad advice.

Not bad Eric. Definitely agree with use of slow negatives w/ lighter weights and perfect form. Also, the T-bar rows were pretty awful to be fair. The only thing that should be moving are your arms, not your hips and legs.
To all the people that are hating on the tension concept: Just because you lift heavier weights does NOT mean you are directing the force of that weight through the muscle you are trying to work. I see people do heavy curls and the only thing being stimulated is their spine. They could have got a better bicep workout by doing 5lb curls.
EDIT: Also, disagree with your justification for allowing your elbows to swing during your curls. Remember that more weight =/= more tension as you know. I used to curl 35lbs for 8 reps and 3 sets. Now I use half the weight with slower negatives and no upper arm movement and have seen half an inch of growth to date since refining my form.Last edited by PlantStrong; 07-10-2012 at 01:26 PM.

Good video as always, Eric. I think you should do dead hang pullups instead though dude. And replace both tricep extensions with dips.
Anyway, can someone make a .gif where the black guy jumps up to the bar and Eric looks behind his shoulder and seems bothered?
As far as captions go, the black guy can represent the troll that "runs all up on" and jumps into Eric's thread and interrupts him, causing him to start trippin'.
Edit: If you could also photoshop Whizky's face on to the black guy, that would make the .gif even more rife with symbolism. It would obviously represent Whizky's desperate cries for attention by attempting to hijack Eric's threads, and it would also poke fun at his e-statting because it would have his face on a jacked, black male body.

Good question, but I think the obvious answer is that most exercises range of motion is too small to make a negative that is 10+ seconds long practical.
Like imagine trying to do a 10 second negative on calf raises, it would end up being a series of isometric pauses. Can't keep the motion consistent when the negative is that long.
Just IMO.
But hell maybe 10-20 second negatives are fine. They aren't practical though.
There are still benefits to full reps and certain rep ranges, but time under tension is also important and needs to be taken into account. I'm not educated enough to explain lolThe best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny.
