RON PAUL 12
Eighty-three percent of American physicians have considered leaving their practices over President Barack Obama’s health care reform law, according to a survey released by the Doctor Patient Medical Association.
The DPMA, a non-partisan association of doctors and patients, surveyed a random selection of 699 doctors nationwide. The survey found that the majority have thought about bailing out of their careers over the legislation, which was upheld last month by the Supreme Court.
Even if doctors do not quit their jobs over the ruling, America will face a shortage of at least 90,000 doctors by 2020. The new health care law increases demand for physicians by expanding insurance coverage. This change will exacerbate the current shortage as more Americans live past 65.

699 is not any sort of a proper representation of the MD population in the US.

and where the hell would they all go? brb spend hundreds of thousands on med school just to eventually leave because of a ruling. What happened to doctors becoming doctors to actually help out patients, with money only coming second to the love of medicine. Regardless of "Obama care" doctors are still going to be paid in the six figures, more depending on the field. Being a doctor is not all of a sudden going to be a crap job that nobody is going to want to take part in.

Guess it'll be time to reel out the medical school applications..
Seriously though, in this economy it's become so hard to become a doctor. A friend of mine graduated from an Ivy League school, has amazing EC's, great MCATs, and wants to be a doctor for the right reasons..but the competition is so stiff nowadays that he didn't get in. He's reapplying though, kid's a fighter!Instagram: @Maslag

Uh, you do know how surveys work, right? A survey of 700 doctors is not a garbage survey, actually per capita it's by an order of magnitude better than the surveys and polls that politicians use. And since it's a nonpartisan association that's been around for decades, I would think they'd be fair as far as including doctors from all the regions. In fact, they were.
Obviously 83% of doctors won't leave their jobs, because experience in the medical field doesn't really translate all that well into experience in other fields, I'd be surprised if 15% left. But if Obama passed a law tomorrow that said you'd be making alot less money and put in more time and be owned by the government, you would also consider a new profession.Scotch Crew

The survey was conducted by fax and online from April 18 to May 22, 2012. DPMAF obtained the office fax numbers of 36,000 doctors in active clinical practice, and 16, 227 faxes were successfully delivered. Doctors were asked to return their completed surveys by fax, or online at a web address included in the faxed copy. Browser rules prevented doctors from filing duplicate surveys, and respondents were asked to provide personal identification for verification. The response rate was 4.3% for a total of 699 completed surveys.

this study is very inaccurate. currently in med school doing my rotations. from my unscientific perspective/personal anecdotes (having been at some some pcp clinics but mostly academic center) i would venture to say that most docs are probably in favor of "obamacare." maybe 60/40 in favor of it, by my very rough estimation.
most docs say its not perfect, but they generally understand that something HAD to be done and this at least gets the ball rolling (may be biased somewhat by being at top academic hospitals).

a) DPMA isn't non-partisan on the matter - their mission statements include fighting for a free market in healthcare and voluntary choice of care, both of which will obviously be negatively affected by the reforms.
b) The reforms will probably reduce the doctors' earnings so it's no surprise they're mad about it. I really doubt even a fraction of the 83% would actually quit but if fears become reality then we'll probably see shortages in the future as the article suggested.Go Canucks Go!
