I believe I should be a MISC Mod for a number of reasons: Hours: I work the night shift 11pm-7am Easter Standard Time. I'm on all night. Maturity: At 27 years old I don't fall into the petty nonsense that happens in the MISC on a daily basis. I don't live my life on here nor do I follow the soap opera that is the MISC. I have a vested interest being a member here and helping/teaching those who ask for it.
Experience dealing with people in real life: 14 years of teaching martial arts to kids and older adults. 8 years in the Marines and a veteran of the war in Iraq as a leader in a command position with great power and responsibility. Experience working as a security officer in both a public mall and a corporate world I can say that I know how to communicate, to treats others fairly and with respect.
There are times to be heavy handed (such as banning ghey porn trolls outright) and other times to act as a mediator (such as an argument between members) Using power given in a mature responsible manner: At various times in my life in the Marines, working as a security officer and teaching karate I have been given power and responsibility over the lives of others. I have never abused my power to try to "get back at someone" because I didn't like them personally.
In the Marines I was responsible for the training and welfare of Marines; getting them to and from the mess hall, getting them their mail, taking care of personal issues and training them in their jobs. I have led Marines under extreme situations (Iraq) and during training/peacetime. As a security officer at our local public mall I had the power to detain you if you committed a crime, I carried OC spray and handcuffs with the power to use both if a situation called for it (I never did). I talked suspects into the holding cell we have until the police came, reuniting lost kids with parents, breaking up fights or simply providing customer service in the mall vested by people all over the area.
Teaching karate to various ages, men and women means you have to wear different "hats"; a teacher, a preacher and a Drill Instructor. There are times for each and knowing how to deal with each group of people or as individuals is key to them growing in a positive manner. These are just examples I believe that will show the mods I am responsible when given great power. Knowing when to apply praise or punishment is the right path to take rather than to abuse power hence the old saying "With great power comes great responsibility Future career and why it applies here: My future career is to be a police officer (I should be starting in July at the academy). Being a mod in the MISC is much like being a good police officer...there are times to give out tickets (infractions) or times to make arrests (bans). Sometimes a simple PM to a member or members to solve and issue or a thread will explain things. Again...Knowing when to apply praise or punishment both here and being a police officer will get you farther than just locking up (or banning) everyone for every little thing."
