41 here, turning 42 in May. I have 25g of Casein on wakeup and eat around 9-10pm...I am a bodytracker and it's in my sig. The real IF is a new thing in the last 6 weeks or so. It's starting to kick in. I have done this in the past with good gains on weight loss. I used to be afraid of it. Now I know it's an awesome tool.

I have been doing 18/6 fasting for about 5 months now, it has helped my shed a lot of fat, I have got stronger and leaner. I think doing 18/6 then a 24 hour fast is too much, unless it was one week in every 8 or something. I think you should do one or the other. maybe if you did one type one week, and the other the next?

I found it is the only thing that works for me, as when I eat a calorie surplus, even with training, I just put the weight on in fat......

Hey Soccerdad I've been throwing in a few 24 hour fasts with my 18/6. Do 18/6 all week then sometimes I do a 24 on Sat, or Sunday depending schedule.

Find it's still working good. Still making gains in gym and still getting lean.

After much reflection and remorse (gained 25 lbs, not all of lean) I resolved to get as lean as possible while trying to keep strength gains. I have dropped 15 lbs and had 3 pr's in that time. I train in a fasted state early in the morning and consume 10g BCAA intra and 10g post workout. I also take Dopamite by MHP after workouts and that keeps my appetite suppressed until noon or 1pm. I am at 1800 cal a day (1000 per day deficit) and usually eat approx 800 for lunch, 200 cals for a snack and approx 800 for dinner. I keep my protein intake between 150-200g a day and then fill in my macros with whatever I want (mostly whole unprocessed foods). I started my "journey" a little over 2 years ago at over 300lbs. I have tried so many diets and done the whole eat every 2-3 hour thing and everything in between. As Martin says, IF isnt the only way to go but was his magic bullet. It works for me as well, as I can still eat "big". Diet adherence is the key and IF helps me to adhere better than other methods. At the end of the day you have to do what works for you.

Keep inspiring guys! I love the over35's thread!

I rarely get to go the full 24 but usually once a week I do get a 22-23 hour in... usually Thursday to Friday night because my schedule is conducive to it. I really enjoy it.

I do it now, I eat a lot of protein and dont track much else that closely and lose a couple pounds a week... eating 6 small meals just wasn't for me.

Srsly, taking all of the BS out of it, if you can avoid over-eating at the end of the day, and you are not hungry during the day, IF is fine. If you cannot manage being hungry, IF may be a recipe for overeating when it IS time to eat. If you are a chronic under eater, again, IF may not be for you.

Srsly IF is not a new concept at all. Giving it a fancy name allows people to write/sell books on a subject that has been around longer than any of us.

I'm on meds and do a form of IF... I call it "skipping breakfast".... I know not as catchy, right.

Anyhow, I have gotten my best readings when I skip breakfast alltogether, eat about 25 percent of my macros for lunch, 70 for dinner, and 5 percent before I go to bed,....If I skip that last one, my readings are high in the morning... if I go to bed around 110 I always wake up lower than 100 and it will continue to fall until lunch time.

I dont even count that closely and I am losing weight.

My own belief is that like anything else, there is a bell curve, and most people in the middle, will eat close to their appropriate macros when the eating window is compressed like that.

Your comment also just proves that you have no clue what you are talking about. Intermittent fasting ISN'T A WEIGHT LOSS DIET. You can bulk on IF, you can cut on IF and you can MAINTAIN on IF. Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern, nothing more.
If there really aren't any applicable studies out there, aren't you guilty of doing what you claim everyone else is, by saying it is just an eating pattern and nothing is going on with hormones and the like?

How can you speak so authoratatively on something that really hasn't been studied?
