What's the difference, if any. The nutrition labels are the exact same. The only ingredient in both are rolled oats... yet one cooks in 1 minute, the other in 5.
Any input?

Quick oats are the small flakes. Old fashioned are the big flakes. Quick oats might have slightly higher GI because of the size but no idea how much.
My guess is:
1 min = quick oats.
5 min = old fashioned.
Edit: what brand is that? Instead of buying a brand name like Quaker, see if you have a health food store near you. It’s about 5 times cheaper that way.Last edited by Greg_SD; 07-14-2003 at 03:15 PM.

I ate the quick oats(1 minute) for a long time. Then my mom bought a 5 minute one on accident. When I make them, I just heat water to a boil and then pour it into the bowl with oats. I do not cook the oats in the water or anything. Anyway...I did the same thing with the 5 minute ones.
Basically...both are pretty much the same. Just heat water and pour it into the bowl. Theres no need to cook them at all. THey get soft just doing it like that.
