    Captains chair vs. Hanging leg raises

    is the captains chair an effective AB builder or am I wasting my time?

    With correct form I personally think it's fairly effective for lower abs. Once you can get 10 or so solid reps with no leg swinging put a 5lb or so dumbbell between your feet. Also, I feel that hanging leg raises are more effective, but are also much harder to do with proper form. With hanging leg raises you have to focus on not being at a "dead hang" as well as not allowing yourself to swing. That being said, I'd incorporate captain's chair over hanging leg raises.

    The hanging variation is much more effective IMO. But obviously they are also harder to do.

    Try drop sets on the captains chair. I usually do 10 with 7.5 lbs then 8 with 5 and 6 with 3 pounds. And for my second set I go to 8 6 4 with te same weigh. **** killllllls

    Why would the hanging be more effective? The abs are lifting the same amount of weight. All that happens with hanging is you're also using your arms.

    Or maybe if you tilt back using lats it changes leverage.
