I'd love to do a meet like that. In and out in 3-4 hours is awesome.

His 3rd time was actually pretty damn close, though I do think he jumped the "press" command, he was just shy of lockout for about 2-3 seconds.
I can't tell if there is a slight audio delay, or if they've passed a few lifts with premature presses. both are highly possible.

It may sound great for the people running the meet to get everything done quick but, as a lifter, I don't like it. I had time between attempts because it was one big flight but I felt I didn't have time between lifts. As soon as I was done with my 3rd squat I had to go start warming up for bench and then the same for deadlift. Didn't really have time to eat anything other than a couple of bars and I felt if the lifts were spaced out farther I'd have time to recover better. My right pec and lower back feel like sh!t right now for being stupid at the meet.

No b!tching, the reason I missed my lifts was because of bad execution on my part. Going on my toes for squats and touching high on my chest on bench is setting myself up for failure. It was my own fault but I've got some early ideas to fix those problems once I start training again.

Almost every meet is like that. You'll never find the "sweet spot". You'll either feel rushed, or things'll go too slow and you'll start cooling down between attempts. It just gets worse with gear. After a lift, you have to get out of whatever you had on, and get busy warming up so you'll have time to get into the gear for your next lift. If you're lucky, you might get a few minutes to stretch and eat something quickly. It doesn't just happen with small meets.

Personally, I like just enough time to rest a bit after an attempt, but not so long that I get into my own head between attempts. I like a longer break between lifts so I can eat and drink and switch gears for the next lifts. I usually don't get either. Time between attempts ends up being too long, time between lifts too short.

I guess USAPL Florida meets are a bit different. First meet I ever did there was enough time between lifts for people to leave the venue, go get food, and come back. So I guess I was lucky. But like Judge said, no b!tching. I'm working on my videos right now and you'll see my missed attempts were close to grinding through and being good, just bad execution made that little difference.

No excuses and no making fun of anyone until I redeem myself, you guys are allowed to neg me if I do.

Back from Wal-Mart with lots of food to get ready for my CBL prep phase. Couple pounds of bacon, couple pounds of cube steak, couple pounds of chicken breast, some mixed vegetables, some nuts, Powerade Zero, and I already have eggs, Sunflower oil and other things. Ready to give it a go.

Well it was supposed to be 21 so 5 people were no shows. Turns out there was bodybuilding show in the same high school at the same time. So there were a ton of spray tanned people walking around in basically no clothes while a bunch of chalked up powerlifters were walking around in singlets. It was a weird combo.

Originally Posted by jlockleOSU View Post

McDougal didn't show up because he had some kind of injury, I forgot what they said. That Dennis guy didn't show up either, I don't know why since I haven't seen him at the gym in about a week or two. So there weren't many strong lifters there, I think the raw best lifter had a 404 Wilks. And there was someone in my weight class, I didn't even know till the end when they did awards, but somehow I beat him by 52.5 kgs. Al Davis was there watching though which was pretty cool.

    EDIT:

Anyone want to help me out and jump to 1:40 min mark for my failed bench and tell me what kind of physical weakness that would be. Just assume technique was fine, which it is not. Would that be the transition phase aka "shoulder weakness"?

My advice would be to stop worrying about stuff like this and just get stronger overall. Just get stronger at everything from bench, incline, dumbells, shoulder presses, tricep work etc. Maybe do your bench routine followed by some 1 and 2 board work followed by shoulders and tris.

Alright, thanks. Yea I'm thinking about going back to what worked for me which was benching 2x a week, volume day and heavy day. That was when I was doing board press and close grip on top of regular bench and actually getting continued progress.

My meets never run right for me. I keep telling myself that I've been to enough meets to know what I need to do, then it all falls apart.
    I don't care.

If you're sticking there its a speed issue, volume work/band work/db work would be steps in the right direction.

As for the deadlift, how much deficit/rack/reverse band/band variation do you do in your programming?

to be honest, i think so. I think he set himself up for failure by opening at 716. 675 probably would have been a good opener and then on to 716 for a 2nd. opening with 716 just made him nervous. Hell it was only his 2nd meet ever. I know the right thing to say was that he just didn't have it in him today, but I just don't see how opening with that weight did anything but hurt him.

Well gear makes it more difficult I'm sure. And I learned today that not having a coach and team makes a big difference as well. I'm sure you'll get everything to click at the same time soon enough.

Alright thanks. As for the deadlift variation, zero lol. Just regular, old deadlifts and I've strictly been doing singles lately.

No, I was not surprised at all actually but my reasons for him not gettin it are most likely not the same. The man is only human and he has been going way too heavy for way too long. That **** is gonna catch up to you and it had already started at the Olympia. All I'm tryin to say is that the man left his meet in the gym a month ago. I still believe he is the most powerful bencher of all time of course but I also believe he is burnt out for now.

That's why I wanna get back to what I was doing for bench. 5x5 Bench starting at like 75% and adding 5 lbs a week for one day. And 1x3 Bench starting at like 80% and adding 5 lbs a week for the other day. My triples would get into the 90-92.5% of my old max range before I stalled. Plus I did 2-boards using weights over my max to get a feel for them.

That could be the problem. Just singles + no variations means you can't train at the right intensity week after week.
Either start doing some reps too, or find different pulls to max out on.
My deads went up 50ish pounds in a short time from doing reps on 5x5.
5x5 is retardedly simple and worked pretty great for me.

Now I'm trying different types of pulls to see if that works as well.

There's no way 400 people were there. I'm guessing there were around 150. Me and allergic2rice had awesome seats pretty much all day and then decided to stand for Spotos bench attempts.

I felt like I should have said hi to everyone on Wild Irons team, considering I watch all their videos. Instead I just talked to Bill for a few minutes and I think I added 20lbs to my total during the conversation.

I thought they passed quite a few press command jumps. It didn't help that the guy giving the press command was whispering the command.
