I understand there's always that chance, but some guns are made better than others. As far as the rest goes, I am really up in the air about it all. I obviously dont need something as powerful as 357 ammo, but some stopping power would be very handy. For ammo capacity i figured anything in the 12-15ish range should be good. double action, for sure.

Me too! This is my second G23, but I really want some DA/SA in my life for my multi-purpose pistol.
Contrary to popular belief, getting a CCW in California is not impossible. Nor. Cal. tends to be much more "free" and small county sheriffs often grant permits to rural residents. Naturally, the rest of their gun laws tend to follow suit in terms of leniency.
I think I'm going to try and trade into an FNX 9.Near, far, wherever you are...

Hey guys, I have a few questions and I feel you guys would know the most about weapons.
So I am buying a new rifle in the next two weeks. I want to get a piston based rifle but cannot decide which one... I am currently looking at the/
XCR
HK 416
SCAR
I do have to say I that I held the ACR and it just felt so ****ing alien to me, I have shot M4s/M16s my whole life and the ACR just felt like a toy. Not to mention the bolt catch was in an odd place and the charging handle was a little ridiculous.
Which of these rifles would you guys suggest and why?

You'd probably want to stay with 9mm for that ammo cap or else you'd be dealing with some big handguns and a lot of printing. I'm going to stick with my answer of Glock 19.
It's comfortable, reliable, accurate enough, holds 15 + 1.
Not double action but it's an automatic.NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS

Let me just stop you before the train you're riding picks up too much steams and derails. Before you make any decisions, you need to do a few things:
-Take a basic NRA pistol course (will also count as certification of handgun training for CCW permits)
-Rent/borrow/shoot at least three common pistols in varying calibers. Determine what ergo characteristics work best for you, and what caliber you are most comfortable with
There is no magic handgun that everyone can just recommend. If there was one pistol that did it better than all the others across the board, there wouldn't be any need for other weapons. You need to do your own hands-on research, and that's really all there is to it. No matter what I or anyone else on the internet feel about certain makes or models, what works for you, is up to you.Near, far, wherever you are...

this is basically what I had planned on doing. Just wanted to get an idea on what guns other people liked, so I would have an idea of what worked well for others when I went to try them out. I obviously wasn't going to just walk in and say "some guy on the internet told me to get a glock 19. I want one" Thank you for the solid advice though.

The FNP-45 tacticals are awesome, but IMO the HK45 is better. It doesnt have as many rounds nor does it have all the extra goodies(RD mount, threaded barrel), but the ergos are amazing, I like the LEM trigger better than the FNP trigger, plus their is testing to back up the reliability/longevity of the HK45, not saying the FNP-45 is unreliable. Lastly, HK doesnt use MIM parts.

Lol, you cheeky bastard. You know, like I posted in another thread, I like Glocks because using them is like muscle memory. They point well for me, the ergos actually work great for me, and I know they're gonna go bang when I want them to.
But I'm not really the kind of guy to have eight different pistols. I just want a general purpose shooter, a wheelgun for the woods and truck, and the Hi Standard .22 my grandpa passed down. So with that, I'm ready for my general purpose sidearm to be a bit more range friendly.Near, far, wherever you are...

Gotcha. The big three carry guns these days are the polymer cousins; Glock, Springfield XD series, and Smith and Wesson M&P line.
Common carry models are:
SUBCOMPACT
-Glock 26 (9mm), Glock 30 (.45 ACP)
-XDs
-M&P compact
-Ruger LCP
-Kahr PM9
COMPACT
-Glock 19 (9mm), Glock 23 (.40)
-XDm 3.8Near, far, wherever you are...

SCAR 16S.
-SCAR 17 is the best pure rifle of the bunch, but mags have been completely unavailable (suppliers have just started getting them in) and .308 costs a fortune.
-HK416 is $4500 for the upper alone, unless you actually meant the MR556. I considered an HK416 upper last year, and passed. Have toyed with the idea of an MR556 but at $2800... not compelling.
-XCR just hasn't interested me.
What you should buy
I know you said you didn't like the ACRs, but give it some thought
If you really want a piston, consider an LWRC
or a POF
but the SIG is the best buy of the bunch
Much more so than a Stag piston, even though they are fine in the Plus Package versions
But honestly, do yourself a favor and get one of these. Not piston, but Noveske.

this gun throws a .45 with little to know recoil due to the way the gas is deflected into the triangle shaped lower receiver
