are heavy weights bad for your back?

if I get 40lb dumbbells to do curls/hammer curls/concentration curls is this bad for my back?
is it okay to use 40lb's for a couple months than jump to 60s?

Sore back from hammer curls means you need to work on your form. And/or core strength.

40lb is prolly too much if you are just getting started. As long as you use good form you should be fine though.

And yes, if you get back pain you should work on your core strength as well and maybe go for sitting dumbell curls so protect your back until you are stronger.
