Not a big day for most people 5-19 but it marks the 1 year anniversary of my first heart attack. A year ago about this time I jumped out of bed as soon as a laid down. Dont know why but I could not lay down. I went down stairs because I did not want to bother my girl. What happened when I got down stairs I cant even really explain. I had no idea what was happening. No pains in my chest or arm. No numbness in my hands like I had always heard. But I was in intense pain in my jaw, teeth and neck. I kind of felt like I was going to explode. I thought it was a pinched nerve in my neck. It happened again a few nights later but it was far worse and I thought I was dead for sure and I realized what was happening the second time.
Anyway a cold shot at night after a few hour flight. My abs are finally starting to heal. You can tell the drain tubes messed them up pretty good. ID gets more ripped in 15 days then I have in 4 months but it is what is.
Wow. I never heard the story before. That must have scared the shti out of you. I can't imagine. You are looking leaner than the last pic. I can see it in you mid section. Well done

It's a huge shock when you're so young and active to have something like that happen, but you've come through it and made a great recovery. You've regained plenty of good solid muscle and you're looking fit ... much stronger than the average 40 year old and amazing when you consider what you've been through.
Awesome work!
Just finished squatting. Back to the workout. Hope everyone has a great workout and weekend

Looking great, Myth. Tightening up. Edit: Myth, total respect. Only one year and your progress is nothing short of amazing.
Much appreciated, Flex. Sorry I did not see your behind the neck shoulder press earlier. I was out for the weekend. Excellent. I cannot do behind the neck presses.

I always look forward to your updates to hear/see your progress and to know that everything is getting better with you. I give you much respect for getting back to training even though the doctor wasn't to keen on it when you first did. Keep up the 'safe' training and I look forward to seeing many more updates.

Man you are looking awesome! I almost laughed my a$$ off using ID and "Ripped" in the same sentence. My midsection is still not cooperating! I think it will take another year or more to really even things out. But you man.....srs, you are the Myth. Really incredible and inspiring. I know there are many on here that would love to be in half the shape you are! Keep it up bud!

Here's my contribution. It's not "positive", but is something that happened this week. My calculated 1rm was 275 starting this cycle of starr 5x5. 230 x 5 went up fine 3 minutes before this, but I bombed my 250 x 5 (250 x 0). I'm down 15lbsin 2 months, so I reckon it's catching up. Anyway, is what it is. running 2400 cals 40/40/20.Already looking forward to a long bulk cycle pretty soon.

Thanks, ID. Last time I did this was over 5 years ago, but I am stronger now. I plan on progressing until and cannot progress anymore or until something breaks.

Valiant effort, Dru. Props. To me it looked like you might have lost a little balance on the way down and might have thrown you off. I know you have the strength. Also, what may have contributed to the off-balance is taking it off the rack. Seems to be a quarter rep, right there. Can you make any adjustment so you are just lifting it an inch to take it off the rack instead of a foot? How often do you go through that 5X5? One, two or three times per week? One thing that helps me is getting in a high-rep bench once per week with about 60% of calculated max. Just two or three sets, only and to failure on all sets. For example: Heavy on Monday and high-reps on Thursday. You have the strength, but you just need to fine tune it.

Very good. Dont push to the point of injury. Just a suggestion (on that has worked well for me). When you top out, take a break and try a 5/3/1 program. I am a few months into doing this for the first time and really seeing progress where I was stalled before.
Good luck

Actually first time I was so stupid and clueless I was not scared. The second time thought I was dead but still thought maybe a stent or two and I would be good to go. I am not sharpest knife in the drawer.

Thanks I am now focusing on the health aspect. I am bored with cardio but doing around 200-250 minutes a week of it now. Blah....

Thanks was hoping to be better. I think my giant ego had no idea just how hard it was going to be to get back to way I wanted to look.

Thanks hoping to have more and more to update. Doctors dont like anything less than 12 reps for me. Been keeping it really light and following orders.

Well the quads looked really ripped and vascualar. I can relate for me the gut takes forever. My legs are shredded pretty much all the time. My back and gut different story.

It is the diet and the 5 reps on first set. Diet can really kill your stamina.

LOL, very carefully. The safeties support the weight, but the bar still rests barely on my chest, so I had to wiggle up the bench (towards the head) until I could sit up. In the past I just did the sideways dump, but I just know the next time I do that the weights will smash my computer which I leave on the floor.

It was a mess taking off for sure. If I put the pins lower it's even harder to unrack, so I'm kinda stuck there. My right elbow flared out and I think that's what killed it. That little 2" movement up hurt my shoulder a little bit.
Basically it's:
Squat Bench Rows
Squat Dead Accessory Bench (I use guillotines here)
Squat Dead Rows
The program I'm doing is Bill Starr 5x5 advanced. Next week I start doing 3x3's which will be heavy and kinda fun. I have the spreadsheet if you're interested in looking at it.

That is good advice I think Ed Coan did the same thing and I followed it when I was trying to get my bench up. Now I wonder why I ever cared.

I don't have much to add to what's already been posted, but I just wanted to say you look big and strong and great for anyone who didn't almost die a year ago, much less someone who did.
Last week I posted a deadlift video and got some great feedback on form. I was squatting down too far and standing too far away from the barbell.
So today was deadlift day again, and I tried to correct it. Please see new vid and I welcome any feedback on the form. As you can see it took me a second on each rep to keep myself from going into my old form of squatting too low.
I increased the weight to 255, which is the most I've done. It ain't much, but as a newb to DL's I'm slowly increasing the weight 5 or 10 lb every week. I guess I need straps, because these still feel relatively easy at 255, but my grip in one hand is lacking badly from an old injury, so 3 is the most I can do before it starts slipping out of my left hand. After two warmup sets I did 4 sets x 3 reps at 255.
