Shieeet very similar thing happened to me recently...

It was a rest day for me, and so I was pretty bored at night. After dinner, I decided to play my guitar for a while. After two hours of on-and-off guitaring, I decided I was pretty tired so I should probably sleep. It was 9:43. I lay there, eyes shut and ready to fall asleep and everything, I just couldn't sleep. It was around 10:45 now, and I felt like I had tried just about everything I could to fall asleep. I tried clearing my mind, I tried deep breathing, I even did a few sets of pushups to tire me out - still no sleep. I was pretty frustrated at this point. Now the thing about my room that I probably need to mention is that it's got one big window, which has two small curtains, one on each side, such that there is a gap in the middle. But anyways, I noticed that the window was slightly open, and so I got up to close it. Now here's the part that really rustled my jimmies- when I was standing in front of the window, about to close it, I heard a chord being played softly on my guitar. My guitar was at the other side of the freaking room. I ignored it, thought it's probably just a rat or something that got in the house. Closed the window, started walking back. Heard it again. Ignored that, went back to bed. Still couldn't sleep, but after a while I started feeling a "heavy" feeling in my chest. I sat up, looked behind me. There was some sort of shadow or something, but it definitely wasn't me (I was sitting and this "thing" was standing up). Ran out the room, went into the bathroom and splashed my face with water. I was too afraid to go back in. I "slept" on the couch that night, with the lights on. Call me a pussy if you wish, this really scared the **** out of me.

Ok, I'm a phyconologist major and I'll tell you exactly what happened here brah.

When the lights went off in the shower, you were startled, so you forgot you lit the incense before you got in. The startling/frightning effect caused by no vision blanked that memory because it is a routine thing for you to do, it is not held strongly by the brain every time you do the action. This effect occurs often with humans with routine things....ever forget how many multis you took a day? Only to be accidentally remembering other days?

When you saw the lit incense in your startled state you were unaware you had done it, this sent you into a very high level of distress/panic. At this point you get very nervous and scared and start expecting other things to happen out of the ordinary and it did......
