Is it good for hard gainers to consume extra calories espacially before sleep. To avoid muscles being used as energy?

Muscle breakdown is always happening, but there's a mishmash of confusion in the fitness community between effects at the cellular level and noticeable effects in the mirror. A lot of broscience evolved from learning about the biochemistry and then making the large speculative leap that the same effects are pronounced at the macro level as on the micro level (macro and micro as in size, not macronutrients and micronutrients) when the reality is quite different.
But you're correct. Noticeable muscle loss takes upwards of 48-72 hours. With sufficient overall protein in one's diet and regular resistance training to keep the muscles stimulated, muscle size won't be negatively affected.Science improves practice, practice advances science.
