Honestly, I've heard Intermittent Fasting is literally THE BEST approach to losing weight. I know for a fact that IF works. But yeah, the one main factor to any weight loss diet is the calorie deficit. So yes, if you try IF, you still need a calorie deficit.
I don't know much about how IF works as far as increased metabolism, but I do know that once the body is adjusted to IF, the body will get used to "eating windows". The benefits of this are that the body will be able to go for long periods without eating and suffer no hunger pangs. This prevents any over-eating.
But here is a photo of my friend. His brother is a certified Fitness Trainer and gave him the whole IF plan. Not sure how long he was on IF, though.

i have been doing IF for a week and it is going good i lost 4 lbs but a little water weight i'm guessing. But IF is not for everyone, some people can not handle the prolonged fast. I will admit it is a little tough but if you stick with for a week or so like me it becomes a lot easier.

It's very easy after a week or so. After a couple months, I can't imagine ever eating any other way.

I recently hit a plateau(strange because I am about 293lbs and I don't expect to get a plateau) so anyway the other day I was so busy going to different places and running errands that I literally only had time to eat somewhere in the late afternoon. The previous day was a bit similar in the sense that I worked out at the gym before eating and once again became very busy afterwards and only had time to eat after a certain hour. Well my weight did go down but it could be that I had a high caloric deficit but still I suppose it was sort of like "intermittent fasting". I didn't really think anything of it but perhaps I will give this a try for a while.
I have been doing IF, and love it. First couple of days on it isn't fun though.
My first couple of days are still fresh in the memory. First couple of days "not being fun" is putting it mildly, I spent the whole damn day thinking about food every second.
But yeah, gets a lot easier. Might have been extra hard for me as I was halving my calorie intake at the same time.
I've recently discovered their videos. Honestly, they're pretty informative, once you get past their fighting and stuff. I may try to incorporate this into my cut down the home stretch, on cardio only days though probably. Just to throw a curve ball at my body.

I love IF. It's a bitch and a half to get used to, and that is coming from someone who isn't big on early breakfasts. Once you're used to it though it is amazing. I normally don't feel hungry until it is time to eat. Once the feeding starts it is so gloriously satisfying. Wouldn't diet any other way again.

Switched to IF not too long ago. It actually wasn't that hard for me to get used to. I gotta say that I love it. There is nothing more satisfying than being stuffed from eating a 1500kcal meal in one sitting and then feeling your abs :-P
The first little while it's tough to get used to the long fasting window, but once you're used to it, there's no other way. I'm the kind of guy that eats until he's full, so it's perfect for me.

Guys I am 30 minutes pass my closing time for feeding and I only have about 500 calories in my body(I had a very busy afternoon!). I am thinking if I should go grab some food like 2 cans of tuna etc and then extend my fast my about an hour tomorrow. How's that?
I have been checking this out for some time now. The only thing I couldnt find was what type of caloric deficet should u eat at during your window? Should you eat maintenance calories, 500 cal lower than maintenance or what? I have been cutting for 4 months now and went from 20% BF down to about 12%. I have slowly reduced my caloric intake each month, where now I am eating 1700 Calories a day. I am 5'11'' at 168 lbs. I feel like it isnt enough calories but I have hit a plataue. So I want to try out IF but should I eat 1700-1800 calories in my eating window or up it.
Not sure how IF works, but i read it's fast for 16 hours, eat in 8 hour window? If that's correct does it matter when this window is? Because i get up and work from 6a.m.-5p.m. and eat lunch at noon then dinner at about 6 and nothing else, would that technically be IF or is there some different secret behind it.

I get up at 6:00, first meal around noon last around 6PM, works for me.
The best part of this is, my kids are learning to live healthier because of me.

You can eat at a consistent deficit each day, or alternate calories between rest days and training days. http://www.1percentedge.com/ifcalc/
-30% on rest days and -10% on training days, lifting 3 days per week, should amount to a little more than a 20% net deficit.

Thanks for the response. That link you posted is an amazing tool. I have seen and used so many calculators for BMR, marcos and so on. That one ROCKS!!! Thanks again!!!
Is IF still effective if only used 5 days out of the week? For example, would it be much less effective if I followed it Monday-Friday but broke it Saturday/Sunday?
started IF yesterday. question for anyone that has been on IF for a while.
i have been eating around 2300 cals over 6 meals a day. i found it hard to consume 2300 cals in the 8 hour window(12PM to 8PM). does the body get use to it? anyone else have this problem?

Yeah, you do. Experiment with different spacing of it in the window and see what you prefer. I had a little trouble adjusting, now I can cram in 3000, the majority of which is within 3 hrs of the end of the window (post workout), with no trouble. I like going to bed stuffed, it's great.

Going to start Intermittent fasting tomorrow! The Hodgetwins really know their stuff, huh?! Being vegetarian I hope I can find it easy to intake 1500 calories within the 6 to 8 hour window I give myself! Wish me luck everyone! haha

I wouldn't worry about it. Keep your window the same all days to entrain your hormones correctly.

Hodge twins are entertainment. They're not that knowledgeable on certain issues. If you want to learn about if, go read lean gains. If you want to read about fasting in general, look up Brad Pilon.

Don't have 6 meals then. I have two, or two and a half.
A couple of chicken breasts at 4pm when my feeding window opens, a big mother of a meal in the evening, and then a protein shake before bed. On a workout day I have a shake immediately after the workout as well.
You don't need to have 6 meals in the 8 hour window. You could have 1 if you really want.
