    GOMAD and Acne

    7 Months ago I did 1/2 gallon of milk a day(half gomad) to gain some weight, I did gain some(mostly fat.......) and was on a program called stronglifts 5x5(a good program) but the milk thing gave me uncurable acne, it stays persistent even now and hasn't changed, at the time I didn't know dairy products cause acne, I've been avoiding them now for 2 or 3 months but with no success. What should I do?

    p.s. Went to a dermatologist a few times she did the same thing, she just pop the pimples with some scalpel-like instrument and they come back after a week,so it didn't really help. Lost alot of money for nothing, I don't recommend it to anyone

    go see a dermatologist.
    You may just need something topical to help get it cleared up and get the inflammation down.

    This. Now that you have avoided dairy for 2-3 months and still have the acne it should be obvious that the dairy causing acne is bull****. Now go see a dermatologist and find out what the real problem is, and try washing your face more often with soap and water. Acne is generally caused by bacteria on your face getting into your pores and causing infections/puss.

    Also not sure about your age.

    But it possible it is just your hormones and will go away given time.

    My age is 17, when I did GOMAD was 16 and had absolutely no acne

    edit: it's only on the face, if it was chest or back acne I wouldn't mind really...

    Im going against you on this one. washing more often will just further irritate the skin and make it worse. Unless you just dont wash at all, its usually hormonal or a bacteria that needs abx.

    See your dermatologist and start using a gentle face wash like cetaphil and an oil free lotion like cetaphil or cereve. Wash in the morning and at night, not more.

    Nothing against you JasonDB but please don't give out bull**** advice you have no knowledge about. People who say stuff like this is what piss off acne sufferers the most cause what you just said sounds almost as ignorant as someone suggesting to eat 6 meals a day to stay anabolic throughout the day if you know what i mean.

    My doctor told me to avoid soap and only use water or a proper face wash (i was around 23/24). He said products do nothing at all and at my age it's almost certain it's hormonal.
    Obv could be different if your a teen. Although when I was a teen I did go through an annoying ahme phase and it was because of a hormonal imbalance, I had to take estrogen. Cleared it right up. Shame it didn't give me some fun bags though.

    Why exactly do you need so much milk? It sounds like it's causing way more problems than it's helping. Any source of protein is just as good as milk protein. If your skin doesn't react well with that much milk, don't drink so much milk, simple as that!

    On another note, though, have you tried a product called benzoclin? It's a combination of strong benzoyl peroxide (tough anti zit cream) plus an antibiotic that work together to really fight off acne. I've seen it work wonders in clearing up patients faces in just a few days. You might talk to your doc about it (it's generally rx only).

    Don't do Accutaine unless you have to, a few friends and myself went on it and it clears acne, but isn't worth it unless you have horrid cystic acne.

    I'd reccommend trying to get on Clindamycin HCL, tetracycline, or minacycline. I had worse than average acne even after Accutaine, but being on one of the above 3 medicines for 2 pills a day keeps the skin crystal clear. I'd look into it.

    Hey I just know what works for "bodybuilder/athlete acne"... which is hormonal as well. Soap and water regularly works wonders. Perhaps those suffering with acne of the face suffer from different causes. I'm more familiar with back and shoulder acne.

    Although the OP also blamed his acne on drinking milk, which you have to admit is even worse. I didn't see you jump on him for that stupidity, just saying. ;-)

    I'm not saying it is definitely the milk, but some foods do give certain people acne (at least it seems). Maybe it is a response/reaction to all the hormones in the milk? You never know.

    Maybe people are getting acne, diabetus and aids from eating broccoli... not saying they are just saying that maybe... I mean some foods give certain people medical issues. Just saying it is a possibility. So stay away from broccoli.

    No need to take it to that extent, but as someone who has had to/still has to go to the dermatologist regularly, I'm used to them asking "Has anything changed in your diet? Are you eating any new foods?" every time my acne kicks up majorly.

    I'm just assuming the peopel with the medical degrees ask that question for a reason.

    In the case of the OP he stopped drinking milk for months and still has the acne, and there is no reason, outside of crazy vegan propaganda, to think that milk actually causes acne. Furthremore milk wasn't a new food to time, he was drinking more of it to try to bulk up for a short time. So even if there is a dietary link in his case, it obviously isn't milk causing it.

    I'm not sure if dairy causes acne but it's definetly not a healthy food group IMO. There are many reasons for this... I get my protein from meat,eggs and fish now, a vegan diet is lethal because you have no vitamin B12 and IMO is pointless, it's not natural for human beings because you have to supplement this vitamin if you want to live then and creatine if you want to look like you lift. What part of my post was stupid? I'm just asking for your opinion

    It was stupid because you've stated maybe the milk is causing his issues without any evidence or reason and it is almost as stupid as my broccoli reply, which I gave to you to highlight how silly it really was.

    Milk is unhealthy for individuals with specific issues relating to milk such as lactose intolerance or casien allergies. However for the rest of us it is certainly healthy. I have a major shellfish allergy... if I eat seafood I will die without medical treatment, so therefore seafood isn't a healthy food group. My sister has the same type of allergic reaction to strawberries so those are not a healthy food group either. Claiming a food is unhealthy because certain individuals have allergies or issues with it is... quite frankly, insane.

    If bacteria was a main cause for acne everyone would suffer from acne given the amount of bacteria on our skin and that we come into contact with on a daily basis.

    It sounds like a hormonal imbalance to be honest. Having experienced acne due to a hormonal imbalance I can tell you that all the lotions and blister popping in the world isn't going to help you. Lotions will certainly help clear spots quicker and reduce scarring but popping them will only increase scarring and at the end of the day you won't correct the acne unless you correct the hormonal imbalance.

    In my case I had elevated cortisol and testosterone levels (I'm female, so was higher than should be) which was causing my acne - everyone said "oh, you're eating too much chocolate" (I wasn't) or "just try this anti-spot lotion" (which made my skin more sensitive and sore. I was put on a progesterone pill and within weeks my acne was gone. It could be the case that your age, combined with increased testosterone levels from puberty and cortisol from lifting, gaining muscle and some fat has led to the acne. Drinking all the milk probably didn't help but the fact that you've stripped it out for a few months and the acne remains indicates that it's something else.

    Yep this type of bs talk from others was what pissed me off the most when I had some serious cystic acne. Those clueless people who have never suffered from serious cystic acne giving out ****ty advice and making absurd assumptions based on the anecdotal evidence of how they treated their little pimple. It is like a skinny ***got telling his fat buddy that the reason why he's not fat is because he doesn't eat carbs at night when the only reason why he's skinny is because he was genetically born with an appetite of a 12 year old girl which makes him feel full after eating 1500 calories.

    Between, I'd like to apologize to you if I came off as overly sensitive JasonDB. But at least you probably understand why now.

    Why yes, I was! ****loads of it. Infact I ate so much of it I had to take out a 2nd mortgage on my house to pay for all the brocolli I was eating.
