Shoulders and Back in the same day?

What are the positives and negatives? If any?

I know this works on the whole Push/Pull idea... discuss.
    It's not over.

I personally like doing back and shoulders in the same day (includes traps), then again I like high volume, intensity and frequency.

Positives : Killer super-sets can be had. I personally like DB shoulder press with Lat-pulldown, upright rows with DB Incline rows or Bent over bb rows plus many others.

Negatives : Can be grueling and require more time to complete the workout if your someone who takes over 1.5 mins in between each set.

I probably wouldn't ever post my routine on here for back/shoulders day because from most posts i've seen, overtraining this, overtraining that...I do around 35-40 sets in 1.5 hours for back/shoulders and have seen great size gains in the past, currently cutting. High volume works for me, to each their own though.

usually higher volume is involved in hypertrophy training and when your on a cut you wont be building muscle so I dont see the point

plus you wont have a lot of energy cuz of the cut so doing high volume would be a bitch

strength can increase on a cut though so mind as well switch to lower volume/strength training imo

Nothing wrong with shoulders of and back. Used to do this back in the day and worked fairly well.

I usually do chest and back, and shoulder and legs now. No problems with those either

I've incorporated this into my routine, I hit everything 2x/wk so the first time each week is low volume heavy weight in an attempt to achieve strength gains, the 2nd set of workouts is high volume and intensity as usual. I'll more than likely go back to straight hypertrophy once my cut is over in 2 weeks or so. Very good point though.
