My friend was telling me he has been 4 x 25 pushups every night, regardless of weather he worked out or not on that day. He says it maintains muscle strength and sculpts your muscles if done for a long period of time. He also said that it really improved his bench. I am considering doing it but is it complete BS or are there some benefits from doing pushups before going to bed?

Sculpting of muscles is debatable in general. I don't believe that any exercise, especially push ups, will "sculpt" your muscles.
Push ups did not improve his bench. They are 2 different exercises. With that being said, the barbell bench press is 100x better than push ups. And chances are, he has no strength. He has endurance, which is near useless for a high school kid unless he's doing some sort of push up sport.
All in all, push ups are a stupid exercise for building serious strength and serious size, if any size at all. 1 set of 25 of ANYTHING is useless. Tell your friend he is one of the sole reasons that there is so much misinformation in the fitness community.
