Newbie trying to bulk up... need advice please! :)

    Hello everyone!
I'm impressed at how many experts are on these forums, and hopefully some of you will take a few moments to help me out, it would be so appreciated.

To make a short story, I'm 6'3 191lbs and have been training for several years. I would consider myself fit, but I could never bulk up the way I wanted to.
My nutrition is probably a big factor.

I train during my lunch hour (5min cardio - 55min weights)
I have a protein shake post work out right after my workout.
And eat a meal 30min after my workout (usually a chicken or turkey sandwish with a glass of milk)

I've very recently bought a new and better protein powder (Platinum Hydrowhey) since I heard it was great!
I'm starting to wonder if I shouldnt include CARBS with my post workout drink... and unfortunatly that Platinum Hydrowhey has noone.
I was thinking of having a fruit, but I'm affraid that the carbs will be assimilated too late because its a solid food. Am I right?

Basically I'd like to know if in your opinion I should have carbs straight after my work out, since i'm eating dinner 30min after.
If yes, what would be the best way for me to get those extra carbs with my protein shake? Juice, a fruit, a carb powder?

Thanks a lot for your time people.

    thanks jo_el,

Any suggestion on the best way to get these carbs, and if they need to be ingested at the same time than the protein shake?

I've read quite a few article and it get so hard to make up your mind with all the different opinion hehe.

I presume you're joking, as doing so or not is simply a matter of personal choice.

if you read stickies meal timing is irrelevant. if you feel tired after your workout go have something that gives you energy quick like a sugary drink. as long as you fit in your macros that day youll be fine

Yeah I've read that thread and i'm still trying to accept that whole "meal timing is not that important" thingy haha.

But that being said... it's still unclear to me if carbs are needed for better protein absorbtion post workout...
Also, while I'm at it, even if "meal timing" isnt important... do you guys consider the snack before night time something good to bulkup muscles?
I've read a lot about cottage cheese before bed... but christ I hate the taste so much.

I was thinking of buying cassein protein to have a late night shake.

Thanks again for your help guys,
    Its really appreciated.

Does it help you reach your goal? Why a casein shake? Why not something tasty like a steak
