    Reg Park 5x5 ?

Hi there guise, I feel it's time for me to make some serious gain's in size and strength. I've been looking at reg park's 5x5 however considering I can bench around 2x my body-weight, squat just over that, and deadlift just above that, would reg park's 5x5 be a good move? and would you recommend that beginners routine or go straight to the power routine. I've recently started to be consistent with eating alot! so I know that is going to be very beneficial also.

Any program that emphasizes big compound lifts such as a 5x5 program, Starting Strength, 5/3/1 are all good linear programs.

The key with any of these programs is to start LIGHT. It should take you between 4-6 weeks to get back to your current 5 rep maxes, even longer on 5/3/1.

I think a program such as Starting Strength, or Madcows 5x5 is excellent to start with.

    NOW GO READ THE STICKIES!!!

There's much better programs to start with.

    Something like this SS > GSLP > SS 1x5 > Madcow/TM
    trying to get strong again

I'm serious about getting big now, and will be following one of these program's, however I do have one issue so please bare with me as I'm sure other people in my position may feel the same (rightfully so or wrongfully so), I am current benching, squatting and deadlifting between 1.5 and 2x or more my bodyweight on a more bodybuilding type routine. I've been told to start very light so I don't stall so quickly thus lengthening the program and gains made, but if I'm doing 5x5 of weight that is say 40-60% my 5rm what gains am I going to make from that? won't that just be wasting time?
I am not trying to make any statements here, just trying to give you guys who are generous enough to help me out, an understanding of where I'm at

If you input your current (tested) best 5RM/1RM into a 5x5 program, such as Madcows, then you'll match that weight in the 4th week. After that point, it's all PR's.

Just do the texas method, set it up so you hit your old 5rm in 4-6 weeks, don't start at 40-60% of your 5RM more like 80%-90% (if you can squat 200kg for 5, starting at 80% would be 160kg, which is pretty light in comparison)
How long have you been lifting for? Probably no point you going on SS, it will just run you into the ground unless you eat enormous amounts

This. I basically use 80% of my 1RM for my week 1 5x5 and put on 5 lbs a week till I stall. I've been stalling about week 5 for each cycle before I have to deload.

One of the biggest mistakes a lifter can make is thinking they're more advanced than they are. Generally speaking, pick the simplest thing that will work for you.

Even I made gains on 5x5.

    Just do it.

Hi there kayne, I've been doing weight routines on and off for a few years, in the hopes of 'looking good'. But as I say, I can bench, squat and Dlift 1.5 - 2+ times my bodyweight. so 80-90% is a good starting point for me with one of these types of programs?

Ok sounds good! perhaps I can use this for reg parks 5x5 and when I stall I can move from the beginner program onto the power training program?
