    - grip is too close, go wider again
    - elbows are tucked in too much during presses (don't purposely flare them out too much, but don't keep them in too much either)

    Some possible reasons...?

Also when it comes to the connection during weight training for a lot of clients, they most likely ARE feeling it in the area, but they expect it to be a lot more intense for example. Or for it to feel different itself. Just unfamiliar perhaps.

Try going with cable/dumbell/machine flys for a bit. A lot of times clients compare feelings like biceps and triceps to larger muscle groups (ie. chest) and expect the same feeling. Let them know that not every muscle feels the same when activated.
You better enjoy the ride, because its a long road.

Just because he doesn't "feel it" doesn't mean his muscle isn't working. Maybe his triceps are just a lot weaker. As long as his lifts are improving, who cares? Tell him to relax and just keep lifting.

That's exactly it. Everybody has a difference tolerance, and just because he doesn't feel it, doesn't mean it's not working. What muscle obviously gives out first is the weakest - so focus on his Triceps (possibly even isolate them with another exercise) and keep researching

This man is 50 years old. He's obviously new to resistance training, and he probably has a desk job of some sorts. His physiology isn't the same as younger guys being able to feel all the jacked muscle fibraz, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't know how to use the muscles in his scapula. Without good scapula flexibility and activation, this man is predominantly going to use his arms to do the movement. When doing the bench press, make sure his shoulder is sitting in his socket, and not over extended (over protracted scapula). Make him squeeze his shoulder blades back and keep it squeezed in the down movement as well. I would also like to mention; before even instructing him in manipulating his scapula, it'd be best to do some corrective stretches and corrective exercises to activate the muscles that are appropriate for certain chest exercises.
