Just wondering. I don't like cardio overall. Oh, not that sometimes I get an urge to do some kickboxing, or just want to go for a nice walk outside. But overall I just don't like cardio
So I'm wondering how much people here do, or don't do.

I do very little true cardio. I spent months doing cardio routines religiously and never lost a pound (this was before weight lifting). I try to follow many workouts with some ab & core work, some of it really gets my heart rate up, so I figure that's as good as any cardio. I do my elliptical at high resistance sometimes if I feel like it.

I do cardio about 4 times a week, but never more than 30 - 45 minutes a day. Its not always at a gym. Monday I went swimming, today i practiced capoeira. tommorow maybe i will do a run or take a random class. I just find something i like to do and is fun.

1, maybe 2 hours a week. I used to be a cardio queen and was gaining weight instead of losing. Diet works way better than cardio to lose weight. I still do some cardio because I think it's overall good for my health.

I also hate cardio, but I'm trying to get in cardiovascular shape for a rugby tournament and shed a few lbs before the school year starts again. I NEVER do cardio on a machine...I would much rather have my feet soaked from rain, or frozen from the snow that's in my shoes than get on a machine for anything other than warming up before lifting. Generally, I find intervals to be much more pleasant than steady state since I have a timer to distract me. Sometimes I bike. I try to do cardio at least 2 days/week, sometimes 3. Not including if I'm doing HIIT after lifting.

This happens because of something called the compensation effect. I do a lot of cardio because I am an endurance athlete. If I am cutting I usually will cut on a 250cal deficit, but when doing a lot of cardio you get really hungry, you have have to be really meticulous with your diet, or else you end up eating at or above maintenance without even realizing you are doing it. It happens to people who don't track calories accurately and/or estimate their maintenance.

Diet is the main thing... If you have that in check, you will lose body fat.. at a certain point you will have to figure out a way to lose weight again if you are only doing it through diet.. whether it's dropping calories or adding in a work out and leaving calories alone.. you will find that as you drop weight you are constantly re-evaluating what you should do for diet and exercise...
To be a well rounded healthy exercise should be in your routine along with a good diet... a ton of cardio isn't required unless you like say running marathons.. or doing biking and century rides or swimming lots.. then go for it... weights also help too.. find a balance that works for you.. but cardio alone doesn't burn fat!Sarah- NASM CPT

I used to do at least 45 minutes, 5 days a week. I stopped and focused more on weights, I now do maybe 20 a week on the treadmill or stairmaster and thats only cause I want to, not cause I feel I have to to lose. I walk about an hour a day total but not for exercise. I have not gained any weight since I stopped doing cardio everyday and am still losing. As it's been said, diet, diet, and diet.

That was totally me. I'd do tons of cardio and then think "hey I was good today, I burned all those calories, I can eat X, Y, and Z now" which was total crap of course, since X, Y, and Z had way more calories than any cardio I did that day.
"You can't out train a bad diet" was the biggest revelation for me. I wish I had understood that sooner.Follow my 2018 competition prep here:

You and me both! BUT give me a track...and I will sprint all day like Carmelita Jeter...(I wish). Hiit is awesome but any other cardio is boring and pointless when you could just lower your calories. But some prefer to be able to eat a little more and than burn more calories with cardio...but seems pointless to me. Everyone is different though. As of right now, I am not doing any cardio but I do insane weight sessions, so I likely burn a good bit of cals...but my focus is not calorie burning, I'm trying to build sooo I need them cals

Cardio is a great calorie burn, but more than anything it does help keep your heart healthy.. I know intense weight training can really get the blood pumping.. but many don't lift like that...
Yes you can just cut calories.. it's been fun for me to find things I enjoy doing as I have had to lose weight...
as many of you have said.. everyone has different goals!Sarah- NASM CPT
