Question, just listened to the first few minutes of your response while riding into work. In the beginning and I know I'm not being verbatim here (yt is blocked on my government comp so I'm winging it) you talk about how Vince says iffym is an excuse or lazy or whatever. You go on to say something along the lines of, if eating pop tarts gets the same results as brown rice for instance, that's "intellegent" instead of lazy. In the Army, when we do pre-deployment training they teach us to take the "path of least resistance" to get to the objective or get through the attacking front. Is this the same concept somewhat? For some reason every time this debate comes up that pops into my head and it seems like a pretty legit way to explain the concept of working smarter and not harder to reach the same goal. I know I'm not factoring in micros or anything like that but, the basic concept itself is what I'm referring to.

I cant answer for everyone else, but I have found better strength gain and equal weight loss on IIFYM than when I used to believe in the Bro diets.
I have been doing IIFYM for the last 18 months and probably look the best aesthetically I have ever been on this cut, and was at my strongest on my last bulk.
I lol'ed when he said you cant lose weight while eating Krispy Kreme. There is no spoon.

This is also the earliest post I can find for "IIFYM" without the extra "I" first used by Erick. The only other time the exact acronym was used in 2010 was when the same poster used it the next day.

It didn't really take off until Erick used it in this thread:

More trivia: First use of "mirin" :

Strong this.
Annoying that people come into threads, start blabbing on about pop tarts for all your carbs, whey for all your protein, and pure shortening for all fats and saying that's what IIFYM is.
They then go on to explain how only eating oats, egg whites, chicken, and brown rice is the right way to do it. But all they're doing to using an approach is amounts to more food volume but the same end result: a calculated diet based on macro goals. So retarded.
Not sure how it was made so unclear that macros are not the same as food names or choices."When I die, I hope it's early in the morning so I don't have to go to work that day for no reason"

^ I'm not following you. You just stated that an incorrect assessment of IIFYM is made by those that ridicule it by pointing out that it then would be okay to get your nutrition from Pop-Tarts, whey powder and shortening. These same critics then go on to recommend a typical "clean" or "bro" diet. Then you add:
But all they're doing to using an approach is amounts to more food volume but the same end result: a calculated diet based on macro goals. So retarded.
You think composing a diet of mostly Pop-Tarts, whey powder and shortening will give you the same end result as a diet composed of mostly whole foods high in micro-nutrients? You think those that are eating bro diets are only concerned with "a calculated diet based on macro goals" and not micro-nutrients, fiber, satiety, etc.?

^
I think you missed his point, he didn't say a diet composed of purely pop-tarts and whey etc would be the same, he was pointing out that bro-tards think that this is what IIFYM preaches.
"But all they're doing to using an approach is amounts to more food volume but the same end result: a calculated diet based on macro goals. So retarded. "
I think he means that the end result is the same despite what the bro's believe, that the result wasn't because they ate only "clean" foods.
Perhaps it could have been worded better.

I know he pointed out bro-tards think that this is what IIFYM preaches; I said that in my post.
I think he means that the end result is the same despite what the bro's believe, that the result wasn't because they ate only "clean" foods.

No he was comparing the "bro" diet to "IIFYM", not what the bro's think IIFYM is, how do you not see this.
Here Adam explains what bros think.
