Animals in the wild have to continually contend with the expansion of human civilization. Certain animals are able to achieve coexistence through acclimation; I am sure many of you are familiar with pigeons. Well, subway goers in Moscow are becoming familiar with stray dogs. These dogs have become accustomed to using the subway system as a means to travel across Moscow. Even catching a nap along the way. Traveling among the daily traffic, they have worked out a great system.

Closest thing to myth: The Yeti Crab (Kiwa hirsuta) a species of blind deep-sea crab who gained their nickname from their legs which are covered in pale hairs, akin to the 'fabled' yeti. First discovered in 2005 along the Pacific-Antarctic ridge, south of Easter Island, most of these crabs live deep in ocean (2,200 metres reputedly) on recent lava flows. lacking eyes, the crabs may use their hairs as tiny chemical and physical sensors that help them find food or mates in the deep sea.

This is the eye of the Atlantic Giant Squid, the largest recorded eye in the animal kingdom, with eyes up to a whopping 50cm (20 inches) in diameter. Although these giant eyes have not evolved to hunt with, but rather so as not to be hunted! The sperm whale is their ever present predator and these massive eyes help them stay one step ahead.
It should be noted that it is believed that the Colossal Squid have larger eyes, but as of yet, none have been discovered.

Meet Clione limacina, the angel of the north. This sea angel is a bit of a mystery to biologists, as for much of the year we have no idea where they go.
They make an appearance in the icy waters of the North Pole in spring, where they hunt sea butterflies. A month or so later they disappear - and no one knows where to.
Growing up to 5cm in length, they use their tentacles to grasp prey and then rotate it until the it's in the right position to be extracted with its hooks.

Millipedes can be quite dangerous creatures, but the shocking pink dragon millipede takes the cake for its nastiness. This millipede shoots cyanide from its mouth. It is a spiny and toxic millipede aptly named for its bright pink colour.
These adult millipedes are approximately 3 cm long and live in the open on leaf litter. Because of their ability to create cyanide, the millipede smells like almonds (the common odor of cyanide).
