Best ways to Prepare Sweet Potatoes/Yams

I want to add these to my diet, but need some ideas for preparing them first. I can think of baking them or cutting them up and baking as fries.

Do you have any other suggestions, tips, or tricks for them?

Believe it or not, sweet potatoes are one of those rare foods that taste very good microwaved. I used to bake them for roughly an hour, but then for the sake of convenience I experimented with the microwave. It takes 10 minutes, maximum, and I actually prefer the taste.

my mums recipe and i love it.. after washing your sweet potato and cut them into half or thirds if they are too large, put them in a rice cooker, add 100ml of water, add a slice of ginger(pound it flat to release the flavour).. let it cook for 20-25mins depending on how many sweet potatoes you cook.. after 20-25min, turn off the heat but do not take it out.. leave it in the cooker for another half hour and you will have delicious tasting sweet potatoes..

I either mash them with creme fresh or butter after boiling or.....

skin them, cut them into quarters then roast them(1kg) in; 2tsp olive oil, salt, pepper, and any herbs you enjoy. For 40-45 mins, turn half way. Delish.

If cals aren't an issue: cut them into strips, coat with sugar, then deep fry. Sort of like candied sweet potato but better

Simply cut them into smaller pieces and steam them. No need to add anything extra. Real soft texture and brings out the sweetness in the potato

In a hurry = microwave then eat with American mustard and cheese. If I have more time I'll oven roast them with a little olive oil and some spices.

I love sweet potatos... have one ready for me in the fridge for lunch. Microwave, overn, grill, fried, steamed, it all works, just as long as they are cooked long enough. The quickest way s definately the microwave, but make sure you roll them half way throught and poke hole in them before hand. If you fry them, add some steak rub (I like kansas city steak rub) for seasoning. If you prefer them grilled or baked but dont have an hour, microwave them first, cut them open and cook them to brown the outside on a high temp (400 degrees).

I prefer mashed with chicken breast or steak, I cover a bite of meat in scoop of them and taste wonderful.

You can spice sweet potatos up with some brown sugar, honey, or butter, if you can sare the calories, carbs and/or fat.

Sometimes my Mother will boil sweet potato in coconut milk and sugar. I have never liked having it as a dessert but she use to eat it a lot as a kid in Singapore that way.

    You can make:

    Pancakes
    Waffles
    Mashed Taters
Steak Fries (cover in olive oil, add cinnamon, shake in tupperware then bake them on a stone at 400)
    Boil them
Add them to a steak salad
Or throw them at a cat and eat the cat with fries (aim for the ribcage, it pushes air through the vocals and makes them squeak like a toy)
Learning something new here every single day... and I'm still not sure if I understand : /

Correct me if im wrong, but doesn't boiling potatoes take all of the nutrients out of them. Same with any other vegetables. And doesnt the skin of the potato hold alot of nutrients as well? This is what ive been told.

Thanks for the quality feedback. Repp'ed a few of you. I'm trying to eat clean, so deep frying or cheesy toppings are probably a no-go for me. Grilling is a good idea along with mixing in herbs with mashed sweet potatoes.
