yes, macros are the same "technically" but there is a big difference between good fats, and bad fats, complete proteins, and incomplete proteins, etc etc...
also what about micros?
quoting Pawel Maslag:
"I'm not a believer in "If It Fits Your Macronutrients." The way I see it, there's a difference between a 600 calorie unhealthy Big Mac and 600 calories of veggies, fruits, chicken breast, etc. A lot of the things you eat on a "IIFYM" tend to be wasted calories. If you believe skittles fit your macro intake, maybe they do, but are you actually getting any true benefits from it? Barely any vitamins (to be fair, there's some vitamin C) or true benefits such as protein and good fats. "
" I'm personally against IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros, for anyone who's reading this). If eat a 550 calorie meal full of rich nutrients of vitamins, high protein, good fats, etc compared to a unhealthy meal that contains 550 calories but with low levels of vitamins (if any), same protein, saturated fat, etc. you'll FEEL the difference. You are what you eat, and eating unhealthy but with macros that fit your diet just doesn't cut it for me. "

IIFYM is pure broscience. it neglects fiber/micronutrients and also the proper fats that will help with ur testosterone production.

in terms of body building and in general iifym works.
if your macros are 20/30/50 f/c/p, you are not going to be able to reach those from eating fast food or your not going to fit your fat macros. you are GENERALLY going to have to eat moderately clean to hit those.
if you worried about vitamins take a multi

not fukking sure if srs.
you realize vitamin c is involved with 1000's of metabolic processes? its not just something floating around in the body for fun. the fact is vitamins and other micros have a direct impact on your quality of health and therefore, workouts over time, and the quality of workouts have a direct impact on how you look."I'd rather be judged by 12 than be out my watch and wallet"

shutup dude, how the fuk would you know this? lmao
iifym = nothing in moderation will hurt you.
people seem to like to use the argument, "what if i eat all sugar for carbs and all mcdonalds grease for fats.... WON'T THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE?!??!"
obviously it will you dumb fuking moron. but that does not mean that eating those things in moderation will. huge disconnect in people's logic here.*Jungle Fever Crew*

yo you dumb ****ing ape. Iifym has nothing to do with eating ****ty food. I eat clean diet 99% of the time but lets say i wanted to eat a ****ing poptart..i would just fit that into my macros you dumb mother ****er. How hard is it to ****ing understand a simple concept? If you use iifym and just eat ****ty foods all day you are a ****ing idiot anyway and should not be in this hobbY.

IIFYM prescribes particular amounts of calories, protein, fat, and carbs
The point is not that you can fill those things with crap...the point is that you can periodically fit some crap into it with no problems and you're going to enjoy your life more and be more likely to stick with the diet. However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results - Dr. John Berardi

actually the theory itself is wrong.
IIFYM claims you can eat a diet of fast food cheeseburgers as long as they fit the macro profile, and the result will be the same as the same guy eating chicken rice veg (genetics and workout routine held absolutely constant). this IS the essence of IIFYM and is why the diet has gained popularity. It makes people take a second glance "Wait... u wot m8? u saying i can eat cheeseburgers all day?"
actually.. yes that is exactly what the diet is saying because it goes literally no deeper than "iffym".
THIS IS WRONG and the guy eating clean will end up looking better 2 months, 6 months, 1 year down the road because the other guy is lacking micros, not to mention the additives, preservatives and other schit put into fast food cheeseburgers. plus the carbs are all simple sugars, if his workouts aren't timed perfectly more fat storage, etc...
it may be an extreme, because no one really does that, but iifym is flawed at this level. and thats what makes it stupid. i don't care if you can eat one fukking poptart, thats part of normal dieting not some revolutionary new way to diet."I'd rather be judged by 12 than be out my watch and wallet"

I beg to differ. Before IIFYM, we all "ate clean" and that only got you so far. If/when you wanted to not eat clean, that meant a cheat meal/day, which undoubtedly sets you back. When we say IIFYM, we really mean "I track my macros." It means we don't have to "cheat" on our diet at all. Just because some people use IIFYM to the extreme (protein shakes and junk food) doesn't make it stupid.

Those^^^
I ate a pint of Ben and Jerry's everyday for 30+ days just to prove that it's all about calories in vs. calories out, and I made that point clear...was it healthy? fuk no, but did I look good? fuk yes because I knew how many calories I was burning each day, and ate 250+ calories from maintenance while bulking and -250 calories when cutting
rest of my diet was what people consider "clean" to get the most I could vitamin/mineral/fiber wise from the rest of my food...burned an average of 4k calories a day, so 1k cals of w/e I want was easy to fit in and still get the rest of the good things I needed in my diet

no, it does not claim that you fuking moron. there is a point where too much of anything becomes bad for you, but that does NOT mean that eating those same things in moderation is bad for you. EVEN IF IIFYM DOES CLAIM THAT, THERE ARE VERY FEW PEOPLE WHO WOULD TRY TAKING IT TO THE EXTREME AND IF THEY DO, THEY WILL REALIZE IT WON'T WORK THAT WAY. EVEN IF IIFYM DOES CLAIM THAT, IT STILL DOESN'T MEAN THAT CALORIE INTAKE AND MACRONUTRIENT INTAKE ARE THE 2 MOST IMPORTANT DETERMINANTS OF BODY COMPOSITION.
also, insulin sensitivity means jack sh*t for people who lift. decreased insulin while sleeping more than makes up for insulin spikes during the day. why can't you fuking idiots read some god damned research so we can stop seeing these retarded threads on the misc?*Jungle Fever Crew*

Only people who don't understand IIFYM are against it.
No one is saying go out and eat a bunch of crap food and bring up crap like "so you think eating 300 grams of sugar cubes is just as good as eating 300 grams of broccoli, hurrrr durrr"
If you don't want to follow it, then DON'T.
To quote the Hodge Twins, "do whatever the phuck you wanna do"
If you know to properly use it, then it will be a great asset to you. It's a great way to SIMPLIFY your life, but yet everyone turns it into the biggest extreme they can ("so you can just eat oreos and whey, and get results? I don't think so..."

why the fukk is it so hard for you fukking retarded idiots to understand what iifym is?! The point is to fill most of your calories/macros with nutritious whole foods, get your micros, and then, if you have calories left, fill it with whatever you want. No one fukking said to fill all of your calories with non nutritious/processed foods. You people who cannot understand this simple concept are beyong stupid. Yes mad that retards fail to comprehend this.
