Question Am I a beginner or intermediate?

I have been lifting at home for around 6 months unfortunately I only notice fat gain because of my very light dumbbell. I will try to get gym membership
but I would like to know if I am still a beginner or an intermediate. Thank you.

If you lift small amounts of weight, have next to no equipment and have only gained fat, what do you think?

Beginner. I lifted light dumbbells, and once I bought my own barbel, weights and dumbbells (all of it for 90 euros, good price) I began lifting seriously. Whatever I did before I consider crap. When I lifted: beginner.
    See where I'm going?
Seriously, 90 euros you get two dumbbells, a whole bunch of weights and a barbel. You don't need a treadmill, just go out and run (for cardio).
    More pain, more gain.

In that case, should I begin with SS (Starting Strength)?

You could search for a plan in this website. I started with the Kris Gethin 12 week muscle building plan. It is a good introduction to bodybuilding.
    Good luck.

even if you train on a professional gym with the best equipment available you're still a beginner if you have been training for less than 1 year
you're also a beginner if you have been training on and off for years without seeing a steady improvement
even after 6 months of SS you're still a beginner
