I don't spend lot of time looking this stuff up but from what I know...there's no real negative cognitive effects from getting high here or there. and the negative "stupid" effects traditionally associated with weed are only while you're high, not afterwards. the cancer talk has pretty much been exposed as a myth. so no long term mental effects to make you stupid it seems like.

there's a link between smoking weed and poor short term memory, but do those studies apply to moderate users? or were those studies done with potheads who are getting high all the time? You never know because in so many of these studies they expose rats or monkeys or whatever animal it is to doses of drugs that no human would ever consume.

on the other hand, there's a lot of positive effects like reduced anxiety/stress, help deal with nausea/pain/headaches/diseases, there's studies out saying weed potentially stimulates brain cell growth and has protective properties in the brain.


is there a single legitimate argument for it to be illegal? is there a reason there should be taboo surrounding it at all when it might actually be good/healthy for you?

Personally i think in moderation it can be healthy for you. If people are saying well it affects lung capactiy, etc. Just have it in ediable forms?
Its amazing how people will openly accept chemical drugs from pharmacies yet refuse a drug that is natural and has been used for medicine for thousands of years!

I smoked almost every day for a year and I haven't smoked in 2-3 months now. The only time it affects your memory is when you're actually high, there are no lasting effects (unless you smoke like an eighth a day).

Not everybody who smokes ends up like this but a lot of people with easy access to weed do. You see a lot of the '420 4eva smoke weed errday' crowd saying things like "it's just a plant, man, it's way less harmful than alcohol which is just a poison that people willingly put into their bodies, it doesn't affect me I just do it because I like it" but they're endlessly content to sit around smoking weed and watching anime all day while growing dreadlocks and making no progress in life.

I like it but I've cut back hugely (not smoked for about 4 months before last weekend, and then it was only a little). I doubt it's harmful in moderation but it's easy to let moderation turn into regular use - 'only in the evenings' is not moderation.

My memory improved dramatically after a few weeks of not smoking. It definitely impaired my memory and I wasn't smoking close to an eighth a day. People are different - it's perhaps more accurate to say that it can affect your short-term memory.

actually it induces paranoia/anxiety in alot of people. and also can trigger or possibly cause schizophrenic like mental symptoms in some people. that being said for most people its probably fine IN MODERATION even though most people dont use it that way.

In my opinion its these chemicals that mess you up, not the actual weed itself.

They use stuff like fly spray and formaldehyde which are highly toxic. If weed was legal then it would eliminate this problem, but since when did the government give a fuq about our health if there is no money in it. If they did then they would ban all alcoholic drinks which are far worse for you than weed.

It's a shame it's not legal. You would have products containing thc that you could buy from the pharmacy or something. Wouldn't have to smoke the weed, could take it in some sort of edible form.

Even though they did a huge study on lung function in moderate weed smokers this year and found no signs of reduced pulmonary function in them.

Op no I don't think weed is good for you nor do I think its bad for you. Its good for you in the sense it gives you pleasure and could reduce stress but that is an individual thing as well many people dont like the substance. It should be legalized and other drugs should be decriminalized and better government programs for addicts.
