Let me start of saying i have the utmost respect for those who fought in WW1, WW2, cold war etc. However why do those in present western armies think they are doing any1 a favor and they are "risking their lives" for us? do they not realise they are merely killing hundreds of thousands of innocent middle easterners for greedy politicians with political agendas? thats fine if they want to do that. but dont go around with your superiority complex thinking your better than people that actually make a difference like doctors etc. You are fighting a war that doesn't need to be fought, you think rural farmers in Afghanistan are a threat to the us, australia etc?. Even miscers that are soldiers act like they are better than us, NO you kill the innocent.

I think the government try and get a positive attitude on the millitary to get people to join. I have respect for millitary people and I think the respect should stay there since they are risking their lives but I don't think they're doing me much benefit personally. Still though you got to appreciate that if they weren't doing what they are then someone else would have to because 1) It's about reputation and not seeming weak 2) There are people who need help abroad and despite there being horror stories the army are helping. You can't call Bin Laden innocent. 3) It isn't just the Middle East the army help out. Think about Haiti etc.

We need the soldiers. What would happen if WW3 was started and we had no army? You may think that the military is more destructive than constructive, but they do help. They aid people, and I seriously doubt that they kill innocent people on purpose and willingly. They are like you or me. I'm sure. The system may not be perfect, but it is doing at least some good.

Why? It defused the eruption of what would've been atomic warfare.
The USSR and America decided to fight things out in a subtle, yet intense non-conventional avenue.

So yes, the people that fought that war (scientists, researchers etc etc) saved millions of lives and countless masses of land.

I didnt read anything other than the OP.. but as a former military brah in the US I can say that most people I know are proud of their job, but wouldn't consider themselves heroes.

The media, government etc try to show the military as a friend to the public and in a good light. If the populace is against the military, then the government could have potential problems with people. Same goes with police etc.

Soldiers go in, even KNOWING that the reason they're there is absolute bullchit, but they mow down civilians and the enemy because they were told to.
And guess what?

If you are a citizen of a country, in its calling for assistance you are MEANT to be there and follow through no matter what.
Soldiers simply did as they were told. So I respect them for their undying loyalty and obidience, NOT for 'fighting against oppression and tyranny' like I would normally.
