trying to get to tokyo. my friend is trying to get into the national lifting hall over there. when he was in japan he was paying around 30/mo for bare bones stuff. I'm fine with barbells and dumbbells but I wanted to workout at golds so I'd feel a little more comfortable. I also looked at Int'l shipping for bb.com and I'd be paying almost 33% just for shipping. what do you do? what about groceries? relative to u.s., how much are milk, eggs, brown rice, etc. any info would be appreciated.

Tokyo's a big, expensive place. Most of the food you want you can get for about the same as the states but gym membership and rent is gonna be stiff. I live north of Osaka in a medium sized city and pay about 75 bucks a month for my gym membership. Golds in Tokyo is probably gonna be like 100-150 bucks a month.
I order from bb.com about once every three months, its only worth it if you make a big order. Shipping on frequent small orders will kill you. Do what I do and find a few people to go in with you on an order and split the shipping/Tax.
One of the best things here is the chicken breasts, Japanese people dont like 'em(not fatty enough ). I get a kilo (2.2 lbs)for like 2 bucks. The local butcher thinks I'm crazy when I buy 10 pounds at a time

are you serious? at costco, frozen chicken breast is like $15 for 6.5#... wow. and I was talking to a friend about stuff like brown rice and whole wheat pasta and stuff like that for fiber issues. he said that it's fairly expensive because they don't eat it that much. yeah he works at golds in l.a. and said that tokyo was around 100 yen which is what, 85? but I know that it'd be expensive if I had to take the train and what not. anyway, I wanted to teach english and see the world after college so I'm not going to be too pressed for money. I'm not looking to establish myself, just to see a bit of the world.
