5 year old sent invoice for missing birthday party
The parents of a five-year-old boy have been threatened with court action because he missed a schoolfriend's birthday party and left the hosts out of pocket.
Derek Nash, from Torpoint, Cornwall. discovered an invoice for £15.95 had been put into son Alex's schoolbag after he was a "no show" at the ski centre party.

Rudeness and dumbass-ery on behalf of each parent.
- RSVP'ing and then being a no show with 0 notification is incredibly rude. The dad's story about not being able to find contact information is dubious.... how/why would you agree to let a 5 year old attend a party thrown by someone whose contact info you don't even have?
- Sending an invoice for a no show?? What on earth... no shows suck, but they happen with any event. You eat the cost and dole wit it.
Tbh I can't imagine throwing a $25/head party for a FIVE YEAR OLD.

At our restaurant, if you confirmed a private event with us that requires a deposit and special planning we'll charge you for the confirmed headcount even if fewer people show. We have to so people don't make reservations for 12 and then have 4 people show up, which does happen.
That being said, when people mention that they want to pay separately or collect from their guests, we always recommend they take payment in advance to secure their spot to avoid this exact type of situation.
i don't have a problem with it, but then i work in the restaurant business and feeding 5 year olds for 25 bucks a head is good for business...Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

yes exactly, that's why I noted that BOTH parents are behaving badly. when you RSVP to something, unless told otherwise, the event planner will take you into account which includes setting a plate (which for a child's party might be $25, but for say, a wedding might be $125 or more). if you RSVP to an event and don't show up w/o notification (or apologize), you've basically just told that person the eat their money for no reason.
i guess etiquette is just not a thing these days?
now, again, no shows are a natural fact of events.... ish happens... (hence why it was also rude for the mom to retaliate) but especially considering this wasn't an emergency situation, there's no reason dad couldn't have notified the other child's parent.
