    RAW OATMEAL bad for you?

I have been mixing uncooked oatmeal and protein in a blender with water for about 3 years and within the last year i have been getting semi bloated after drinking these shakes. I did some research online and a bunch of ppl claimed that raw oatmeal has no nutritional value unless it has been cooked. They said it will leave u bloated and hold up your body from eating more for the rest of the day! Whats this about guys?

That's a ridiculous statement. How does cooking "add" the nutritional value? You should know yourself whether it makes you bloated or not. C'mon man, you get semi bloated cause you're pounding lots of cals and it takes awhile to digest. Those people are idiots.

Riiight because adding normal water and heating it up makes the magical nutrients appear in oatmeal.

Some doctors say that raw oats aren't good for you, but I would ignore that. They taste great, whether raw or cooked, and they have great nutritional values. Completely natural and cheap.

The oats are processed before they go out the door. So you can eat them uncooked, but its not exactly raw because they have been cooked already during processing.

I mix my oats with yogurt. Tastes pretty good, but you have to let it sit in the fridge for a little bit. Otherwise, the oats are real chewy.

The original statement about raw oatmeal having no nutritional value is absolute rubbish. Horses eat raw oatmeal and they don't keel over and die.

One thing about oatmeal, however, is that when it is cooked, or is left soaking in liquid, it EXPANDS. That could be why you are feeling bloated.

Why does no nutritional value = keel over and die?

Would you agree ice cream has no nutrional value?
