you're vain and stupid
This is the most outrageous article I think i've ever read. Apparently if you care about what you eat, you are vain, stupid and unfemmenist!

or isnt into fitness, simply exercising/eating to stay healthy, or trying to reach some type of mind/body coexistence.
i found it REALLY interesting that the world 'health' never came up in her article either. of course, how could it?

Wow - not too many things leave me speechless.....but what can you say in the face of such blatant ignorance? When we live in a society where our children's life expectancy is LESS than that of their parents due to poor health, mainly obesity, who in their right mind can sit atop a pedestal and preach that a woman going from a size 20 to a size 14 is vanity?
After reading the article, I definitely find myself questioning somebody's intelligence, and it certainly IS NOT anyone who chooses to take their physical health and put it as a priority. I would say the lack of intelligence is exhibited by the woman who could have better spent the time and effort in the gym, instead of writing such a useless piece of garbage.

And the cookies, and the ice cream and the soda.....
To the couch, where she bemoans the vain and stupid people of this world and their chicken and brown rice...

The only person that is stupid is the person who wrote the article!
I can understand how models and celeb's that dangerously starve to size 0, can get called stupid, but to be honest they are not thick, they are ill and it is a should be taken seriously.
What is better?
1) Sitting on the couch all night, watching sitcoms, eating takeaways
2) Going out drinking and partying all the time.
3) Staying in shape, taking care of your health, making yourself feel good (mentally, physically), achieving goals.
Well I think 3 !!!! It is far from being vain, I don't see why we should be b1tched at for choosing the healthy life style.
If I was a thick girl, I would choose to do 1 or 2 !!!

Feminists of her type are always fighting the sisyphean task of changing women's tendency to be concerned about their appearance. Women have been doing this since the days of the Bible. The article is indeed ridiculous. The problem is not weight obsession, it's all the folks getting fat and unhealthy because they don't pay enough attention.

I read about this far:
Quote:
|
It is a paradox remarkably often noted: why would otherwise intelligent women, educated to a high standard, interested in global politics, etc, etc, worry about something so meaningless as their weight?
|
A person who calls bodyweight "meaningless" is obviously uneducated and/or misguided in their knowledge of biology, bio mechanics, medicine and human body/health issues in general. I refuse to read anything that in the first sentence reveals author's obvious low standards and disinterest in basic natural sciences and furthermore their vanity to consider themselves even adecquate to comment on the subject.
What saddens me about the internet and today's press in general, is that everyone's got the RIGHT to a public opinion regardless of their ADEQUACY to give or even HAVE one.

I can only assume she was paid a shed load of money to write such a dumb article and put her name to it - for the sake of playing devils advocate. I honestly can't believe anyone would willing write something so obviously stupid without HUGE financial gain.
Like you say. I'm staying vain and stupid.

I read the comments under the article and she's be feeling her ears burning
I suspect it's professional jealously between her and India Knight masquerading as intellectual superiority - guess she'd have been wiser if she'd given this reactionary nonsense to someone else to read first.

This woman likes the sound of her voice a little too much. I wish that women could stop attacking each other like this. Feminism gets a bad reputation when women blame and judge. Why would taking care of your body and maintaining a healthy weight be seen as unintellegent? Since when was goal-setting, commitment, and effort a sign of stupidity? And as far as our right to be taken seriously, I think this comment is incredibly UNfeminist. It sounds like arguments that men used to use to keep women from being granted the right to suffrage 90-100 years ago. Women who worried about the family and the home didn't have the knowledge or ability to participate in complicated things like government. Likewise, I believe that women should be celebrated for ALL the things that make them beautiful- including, but not limited to their appearance.
Okay, I'm off my soapbox. But seriously, what was she thinking?

Oh yes and while we're being anti-feminist she'll be in an early grave! I'm sorry but carrying enough about yourself to take care of yourself is kinda common sense....

I'm glad you posted the article, because I think although she is very extreme, and I don't agree with her. It does remind me that I should obsess over my body a little less. I may be the only one here with this problem, but I put my intellectual pursuits aside to focus on my physical transformation. I was in the process of starting a business, but it's kind of hard to think on no carb days when my brain functions are low. I know this is extreme. I don't regret my decision. I can start up after my contest, four months won't make much of a difference.
I'm going to make an effort to plan ahead, so I'm not worrying about my next meal or next workout. So I can read a book, or do something else stimulating for my mind. It's healthy and great to be fit and take care of yourself. I think I've gone overboard. I just needed that reality check.

...says the woman trying too hard in a "fashionable" scarf and bright red lipstick.
I can at least admit to being a least a little vain. Sometimes I wear red lipstick for that very reason...
