JPP > Aldon Smith.
The New York Giant will beat the fellow New York Giant's sack record. Dealwithit.

Was thinking that too, but then I realized Smith didnt start a single game last season and got 1 sack fewer then JPP.

Starting is a moot point when it comes to DE's though. A Rotation of 3-4 could all have around the same amount of snaps.
Just look at Osi/Tuck/JPP for example.

In.
Although I'm a huge Niner fan i don't see this happening. People will know he's coming and it will be his sophmore year which a lot of players struggle after having huge success their first year. Hope I'm wrong.

Don't think he does it but if he stays healthy he certainly will put up some good numbers.
The problem why I don't think he will is good/bad at the same time.
The 49ers defense has a lot of really good players on it and sacks will be split among many people. Aldon will have more chances to get his sacks since he didn't really play til like game 4 last year and this year he'll start from the start so he'll still be out there for the obvious passing downs but will also get his chances on 1st and 2nd downs, question will be whether he gets tired playing more.
And like I said the talent of the 49ers D both helps and hurts his case for sack numbers. Offenses can't really concentrate so much on him because he plays behind/next to Justin Smith who is a beast plus if they double both Smiths then there's still Willis, Bowman, Brooks and Ray McDonald who can bring pressure. That's also the problem, those guys are pretty damn good in their own right so while the D should be great at getting after the qbs it will be tough for Aldon to get all of them. Guy had a ton of pressures last year, sometimes getting the sacks is more luck.
JPP is a crazy good player who should keep getting better and better but right now he's easily the #1 guy on the giants D the offense has to block. Aldon Smith still isn't there - Justin Smith is scary good.

Not sure if you are aware, but SF plans on using him in many more snaps this year...instead of basically just passing downs like last year. He will not be as fresh, but I could still see him putting up 12 or so. Let's hold off on the ridiculous predictions.
49ers/Mavericks, come at me...

Aldon Smith is a beast. I remember while he was redshirting as a freshman at Mizzou he was owning the starting O-line in scrimmages and practices.

Tough schedule but that has nothing to do with sack numbers. They don't face a lot of mobile qbs though if that changes anything. They do face some of the games best qbs tho - Rodgers, Stafford, Eli Manning, Brees and Brady always tougher to sack them cuz they get the ball out so quick.
Tho last year he got to Stafford twice, and a sack against Manning and Brees in the playoff games.

Mizzou fan here too, you had more faith than I did. I thought he was WAAAY too raw to justify his draft spot and that the 49ers made a huge draft mistake. He was a great athlete, but I thought the NFL was filled with great athletes and there was nothing that separated him and made him any better.
I'm also a Rams fan so I hate to see the 49ers get better, but the Mizzou side of me couldn't be more happy I was wrong.

If it makes you feel better I hated that Robert Quinn went to you guys. I know his rookie year wasn't as good but I think he'll be a very good player for you guys...unfortunately.

Wish Aldon Smith dropped to the Texans in the 2011 Draft, he would've been sick in Wade Phillips defense. Will live with JJ Watt though. Smith will have a pretty good year

Thanks, I'm with you on that. His limited rookie numbers were imo based on 1. underutilization, and 2. little need for opposing QBs to hold onto the ball against the Rams (terrible corners + easy to run on). I'm hoping the revamped corner situation pays some early dividends, because if it does, suddenly the Rams D actually looks pretty dang good.
Rams O-Line though..... whew, what a turd nugget. No matter how much the Rams improve elsewhere across the field, you need only look at that line to say they are at least another year away from competing. I can 100% guarantee there will be no surprise competitiveness coming out of St. Louis this year.
