I definitely agree. I didn't want to put anything stronger on the sides since its evening time and I'm going to wash it out anyways
Thanks man, although I want to grow it out to the length in the baptiste video I posted a few posts up (the slicked back length, not the spiked up flat top looking style). Should be another couple months before its there I think
Very classy, the sides look great. I think that kind of style only works on people with sharp features (angular jaw) like you have. Seems like a lot of people see a hairstyle and want it without realizing the model's face might be part of the reason.
Ok so first the truthful part. I have thicker naturally wavy hair (slight wavy) but can be combed straight. What I did was use Scheme Cream from Hanz De Fuko. I ended up buying a few of their products and I really like them. It gives the hair some shine without grease. It is pliable and doesn't dry hard.
I basically worked my hair like Daniel Alfonso does in this vid, but moved my hand side to side (rapidly) as I combed the hair up and back to give it more definition. I DID NOT USE A COMB on the top, just my fingers which I think is important. I combed the sides down however.
but ya.. since my hair is slightly wavy anyways and thick, I think the style came a bit naturally (it only took me a minute to do) so I don't want to get your hopes up if your hair isn't that way.
You tried pretty hard on your signature bud

ill grow it out and try! my hair is dark, wavy and very thick. it's very coarse after I wash it though so i'm cutting down on my shampoo use to once a week and conditioner use to 2-3 times a week. I think i may even need to thin it out down the road. I can't wait till it grows.
edit: so do u need to use a blowdryer or any other products? I literally have NO IDEA about hair.

for example: if you take the #1 guard closed and cut from the base of the head up to where you want the fade to start—base of head, mid head, or top of head—you can set the line where the fade starts.
so essentially you are creating a "line" that will, at first, look like a mushroom/bowl cut. After you've made the initial and shortest part of the fade, what I do is get the #3 closed (two guards up from the #1) and go over the initial line you first made. What this does is it begins to remove the line and starts the fade. Once you've done that, you then get the #2 guard and do the same motion, "erasing" the line.
It's best if you move the clipper lever to have more of a gradual fade: #1 closed for initial line ==> #3 closed to go over ==> #2 open ==> #2 closed ==> #1 open or mid way.
that's as best as I can describe it...you're better off watching youtube vids

I always had trouble with this.
Every morning when you wash it, wash it thoroughly but with no shampoo. After a few days, wash it backwards, then come out and dry it 50% with a towel pushing it back, then let it dry a little by itself. Hairdryer works too but make sure it goes in the direction you want.
Then get hair gel or mud and put it evenly through the hair when it's still slightly wet, get a hairbrush and brush it back, and put your hand flat behind the brush to flatten the hair as soon as it comes out the back of the brush. Repeat this and you're forcing the hair to stick in that configuration. Then let the remainder of the water dry off by itself.
When you do this it should stay in whatever position it dries off in.
If it still doesn't work, and the hair is really thick, get a (good) pair of thinning scissors.
