can you gain muscle on a calorie deficit as a newbie?

As title says, I'm a newbie I struggle to get my maintenance calories in most days, Will my muscles still grow on a calorie deficit?

Is this real life? You can't hit your maintenance @ 107lbs?

Stop being a ******* and eat.

I think you will get some starting definition and bulk just by doing weights when you start out in my opinion. But you're not going to look good if you don't get the right amount of calories, even if you can't get 1800 calories per say, get as close as you can. But listen to your body is also important, i try and eat full and complete foods, i don't count calories and I'm gaining muscle. Though admittedly i'm an endo.. anyway OP just try and eat the most nutritious you can.

Probably a little. Could be wrong though.

Either way, I'd imagine it would be much better to just bulk.
