Except for the sleep monitoring which I am unsure of it seems to be the same as the body bug. I know 24hr fitness uses the body bug but I have never heard of bodymedia. I know someone that uses the bug but you still have to log your food and stuff. If you've already done the research on how many calories you need to maintain with your level of activity and such then you don't really need it.

Read up some more online reviews, seems mixed as always some good some bad.
Agree with kademrulz, seems if you need to plug in all your daily macros and pretty much know what your daily intake needs are.....hassle in the making.
Also needs to be on your body 24/7 to get info.
thanks for replies...Retired...no smartphone....no neighbors......just holes...

It is the same as body bugg - made by the same company actually. Jenny Craig has employed the use of the device as part of their program now, and 24 hour used to carry body bugg exclusively too.
Does it work? Yes, actually it does. Both Lyle McDonald and Leigh Peele agree that it's about 90% accurate, that's better than guesstimating on paper using various formulae.
I have the bodymedia device, whom I have named HAL since this thing runs my life now (not really but ya well kind of). The armband is sold separately from either the display device (which looks like a watch) or the bluetooth model where you use your smartphone for feedback. I have the display. it tells me when goals are met such as activity level, steps etc.
Every night before bed I sync the armband with the web-based program. That's free for 3 months and after that is something like $6 a month. They have a huge database, so not only are you monitoring caloric expenditure and sleep patterns, you can also play with macros and calories - has a great tracking feature to log meals and such.
There is also a calculator that shows you the caloric estimated burn for your weight, height and age in 10 minute increments. You'd be surprised at how low these estimates are compared to what you see on the machine display of an elliptical or treadmill even.
If you are curious about how much you burn during a weight training session, you'd simply set the display timer at the time you start and turn it off when finished. when you sync the device it will tell you.
It's actually pretty comphrehensive imho.A successful woman is one who can build a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at her

Any time! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. You can check it out in more detail at bodymedia.com, and order directly from the site too if you are so inclined.
What's cool is that you can also change the view of your caloric expenditure so that it looks like a graph. If you run the cursor over it and move from left to right, the calories per minute will hover above it.A successful woman is one who can build a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at her

While I'm not over 35, I too have the BM fit and I just got one for my wife. I've used it for a month and have almost lost 16lbs. Don't expect miracles but it does allow you to plan everything and even when you indulge you can plan around it. I've gotten used to it but now it's time to "train" my wife. It'll be interesting to see how she does with it
