Where Do the Majority of Your Clients Come From?
Title says it, though maybe I should clarify:
Which lead-generator has the highest turnover for you? (asked another way: Which ad/marketing technique has been most successful for you?)
I know some people are tight-lipped about this kind of information, but considering that we're a very small population in a giant pond of fish, I hope you'll lighten up and drop the knowledge.

Word of mouth to be honest. Results speak for themselves. When people drop weight (which is the goal of the majority of our client base), they are happy and they tell people. Our exercise classes especially grow through word of mouth. We do occasional leaflet drops too.

Have you run any numbers on your leaflets to get an ROI for them? I've always shunned leaflets/mailers, but I would like to verify whether or not they're effective, as well as a few other methods.

I'm not independent but most would say through references. Same goes for us working in chain gyms. However, when starting out you'll get most of your clients by introducing yourself and being social.

Definitely through referrals and lately also through social media like Facebook and Twitter. When I have an opening I tweet it out and post it on my Facebook and just send it out there to see if anyone knows someone looking for a trainer - inevitably I end up getting an email.

How long have you been at it, Woofie? Try any methods that failed?

anyone who isnt happy to share on here is a bit of a fool. No one on here is anyones direct competition. Givers gain, you give a little to 10 people and then they all give you something back? seems good to me.
If someone is an active and constructive memner on here i think its fine to share ideas and marketing peices with them (as long as it doent not breach any copyright)

Not that you should think or use any person as a means to an end, but picture your client as a human billboard. Once your client starts to have head turning results and becomes a sculpted gift of the gods, then all their friends and family start to seek the solution that they used. That solution is you, and you will generate leads by referrals and word of mouth.
You can also get leads at gyms and health stores by offering tips and advice and deals on training packages. If you are a human billboard yourself with an excellent physique and image, then this has a higher probability of success. It sucks but you have to step out of your comfort zone and build your business with these and other guerilla marketing techniques.

I think too many people rely on people coming to them. You need to get out there and market the heck out of yourself. Online, in shops, your own face, youtube etc. etc.

In no particular order I get the majority of my clients from word of mouth referrals, walk-ins, and social media.
