Hey everyone I recently went through a bulk and have gained some weight. I'm now trying to cut and lose about 5% body fat.
What I'm wondering is everyone has heard that eating shortly before bed will result in having that food that was recently consumed turned into fat. However, I've been supplementing casein protein soon before bed and it has definitely helped me gain weight and put on muscle. I'm on the fence on whether I should keep supplementing it while I'm trying to cut. Any suggestions? Thanks people.
*Oh n yes the casein protein shake would be included in my daily macros (caloric goal for the day) so that isn't the issue/question. And last detail would be the other supplements I'm on are whey protein and BCAA's*

If you are in deficit, you are in deficit. Regardless of when you eat them calories.
You can look up and do some research on the role that insulin plays to inhibit Test and HGH release when you sleep......
That is why I personally don't eat past 8pm (usually), and then in bed around 10pm....
But your overall calories for your goals will play a bigger role.I do IF (LeanGains protocol) since Aug 2013

Doing some looking and reading, since it had been a while for me....
It would seem the at carb induced insulin would blunt the release, but not a protein insulin response.

I don't follow Nate religiously, but he usually has pretty good stuff, and well founded....from the things I have seen/read of his.

More positive responses to drinking casein. I'll probably drink it an hour before bed because I don't want the insulin response to affect my test levels. Thanks people

I have been cutting for a while now, had a lot of body fat to lose and I eat low fat cottage cheese before bed every night. I am one of those people who cannot sleep on an empty stomach.
I mean, a common rule of thumb is to try and avoid starchy carbs before bed, or so I've read. Outside of that, as others have said, as long as you're in a deficit after the shake won't matter, probably more beneficial than anything else.Heaviest: 350lbs, 45% BF
