Actually the rant seems more reserved for those that have been around bb.com for some time as "their place". Sort of like the misc section in terms of discussion content just not in the misc. Most people new to the rant are ragged on. If they try and add any serious conversation at any point, they are still ragged on so when they respond back with some fire (fighting fire with fire) some take it personally and say oh they are ruining the rant lol. Can give, but can't take a few newbs joining (well some-some are actually pretty darn cool here).

Nevertheless, not what the "general population" would think who doesn't know any differently. Got a "rep/neg" comment from a member sometime last week I can post a screen shot of excluding their name that said "What!! I thought they neg anyone who posts in there!" Why? Because it's intimidating to many to post in here which I'm sure is how you control your population (which is smart). I have tough skin and don't take anything anyone says to me personally ever here. I've repped everyone who's negged me in here. I don't care about that petty stuff BUT...

If I am truly screwing up the rant for you guys then I would 100% honestly refrain from posting in here. Dead srs. No love would be lost on my part as personally more than anything, I'd truly hate to be the one to screw up the "rant" that has a very long prosperous history here because I don't "fit the bill" (sort of like what Vox said in his post about the party and being a guest and the bagpipe stuff). That I'd be concerned about more than anything (actually voiced this to one or two ranters before that I hope I don't f up the rant). No-one really knows me here so may take my comments seriously which is never intended that way. I play a lot, but I'm not an insulting rude person and should never be taken seriously when I toss jeers around.

When I first got here I suspected /\ /\ /\ was the truth.

But now I have seen \/ \/ \/ actually occur with new entrants. Which means two things, only one of which am I particularly happy about. First, my suspicion about the Rant on initial impression was wrong, and second, my posts often just aren't good. But at least I realize I am the only one to blame for that.

Ugh, new HD doesn't appear to be resolving these issues with this dell laptop...basically I start it up (Dell Inspiron 1545) and it loads Dell's splash screen with a progress bar, once that bar fully loads instead of starting windows etc. it just restarts and I'm back at the Dell splash screen.


So tech folks any thoughts? I'm going to tear it down and make sure there's not something grossly wrong with the mobo or the cpu, but this seemed like text book HD issue.

Issues like these are often hard to pin down. How much RAM does the laptop have? First thing I would do, if you have two sticks, is to remove one of the sticks and reboot. If the issue persists, swap them out and retry. If it still happens then most likely it's not your RAM. (just trying to find if a stick went bad). This is a relatively quick and easy test so I'd give it a try. Even better, if you know someone with compatible RAM try two sticks that are known to work.

I didn't get mistreated when I started in here, but I kinda followed some folks in from their journals so I was already familiar with a few. Also, it's a different thing to dip your feet and wade in slowly than it is to make a huge splash with 5 block-of-text posts per thread page.

Its called the internet dude. For some, it's all they have and for others it's just a past time. 99% of the people you communicate with on a forum you will most likely never meet in life (unless it's a local club forum). Members pm me all the time asking me to ban someone or say they were up all night and couldnt sleep because this one said something they didnt like can I do something about it? What? Unless they totally violated the user agreement or spammed the hell out of your thread then all you do is click the log out tab or hit the ignore button and problem solved. Everyone will not like everyone no matter how hard you try. I personally know this rant is meaningful to some people so I wouldn't want to screw that up for those people which was why I posted what I did. I'm not a total $h!t head like I have been flaunting around as. I've just been screwing around.

Hmm. You said a 'dos screen'. What does that mean, the computer is running actual DOS? How old is this laptop?! Depending on what you're running into you will either have to reformat and reinstall the OS clean, or flash the BIOS to factory settings.

There are ways to crack the account passwords on Windows boxes that require bootdisks... if you really have to.

Just got around it, found a sweet little website that instantly generated the password (at a small cost). Since dude is already paying me so much to fix it I'll just lose a little profit, but got the password and am now reinstalling his corrupted OS.
