SS vs Splits [Before and After Pictures] The thread to end them all.[IMG HEAVY]

A lot of people keep saying SS is better than doing bodybuilding splits (once a week or 2x a week).

Well, let's see some progress pictures of both then.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    STARTING STRENGTH

    CASE 1:

    Before:

    After:

    -------

    CASE 2:

    Before:

    After:

    ------

    CASE 3:

    Before:

    After:

    ------

    CASE 4:

    Before AND After:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Conclusion of Starting Strength:

Most gains were fat, little to no muscle mass increase in any of the pictures. Note: The last result (case 4) the after pictures are much closer, and give the illusion of gaining more muscle than he really did (although he DID gain SOME muscle).

    Case 3:

For the splits, all I saw was a bunch of skinny ***gots that had more than 1 year lifting in between the before and after photos.

I get the point, you are saying splits produce skinny ***gots. Okay we get your point.

Actually, the only person with over a year time frame was the one that states it. On average, both types of routines results were an average of 4-6 months.

Case 2 and 4 on splits... hmm....

Also, the other ones were crap progress. They gained what, like 10-15 lbs?

Okay man, you can't just take a bunch of pictures, without involving the same time frame and conclude that SS promotes more fat gain and less muscle than splits...

I actually agree with your point, routine's like SS are not particularly great for muscle gain and I much prefer traditional splits, BUT you can't just make that judgement on a few pictures...

Any routine will work provided you have a good diet and work hard. I never did a full body routine, gained 50 lbs of solid muscle in a year, and now that i look back on it i wish i did do SS as i prob could have gained more, but honestly they both work.
    Staple Supplements:

    Allmax Nutrition Isoflex
    Universal Animal Pak
    Universal Animal Rage
    iForce Hemavol
    Thermolife C-bol
    Orange Oximega Fish oil

yeah I can't see 2 and 3 of the SS pics.

I mean i agree that SS- imo- may increase your strength in the excercises it uses, but doing only those lifts comboed with a ton of calories= alot of excess fat because your not burning much in the weight room.

Although I'm not expert and have not tried SS but that is just what it seems like

Splits case 3 and 4 went from really skinny ******* to less skinny ******* lol.

I don't think the comparison you're making is valid. The conditions are too different. If we could get pictures of people who did routine a or routine b for the same amount of time, giving them ALL time to bulk as well as cut (maybe some of the split guys bulked then cut, meanwhile case 4 of SS only had 5 months...and he gained a good amount of mass, probably would look good if he had the chance to cut), then it would be fair. But as of now this isn't much better than taking pictures of Jay Cutler and saying "He does splits, so it's the best."

guys...it doesnt matter which is better...as long as you get there, amirite?

a transformation is a transformation and if they got fat for some reason, they was a difference in diet and you could cut even more. Even though I just started, I like doing SS b/c i believe that it will take me to the finish line and I can increase/brag about my Squats/Deadlifts/Bench.

To maximize SS results, you have to eat like a cow. Aka, you get fat. See case 2? That's a prime example.

i cant see case 2 or 3. and you should eat like a cow but not bad food. I eat about 3k-3.5k calories in primarily healthy food. Only Rippetoe recommends eating 6k+ calories and a gallon of milk -__- so it depends on the choice of the diet you choose.

negging on rc, your comparing people with 5 months training vs years of training.

edit: you seem to fail the concept. Its called STARTING strength. It's to allow you to build up some strength so split workouts can actually benefit and not be a twiggy *******

    They should be fixed now.

It doesn't matter what type of food you eat fyi. You get just as fat from 4k calories of bad food, as compared to 4k calories of good food.

Only rippetoe recommends eating that much? You do know rippetoe is the one who made the program?

case 2 for SS was just sad. I dont know where you find these pics but as Mark Rippetoe says "You're not doing the program". That guy was just pure fat and was doing something wrong. Case 3 was a person on a bulk probably. He would look bigger than the ones on splits when he cuts

edit: you seem to fail the concept. Its called STARTING strength. It's to allow you to build up some strength so split workouts can actually benefit and not be a twiggy *******
That's funny. Because none of those pictures for splits have years worth of training. It might seem that way, but thats because splits > SS.

It doesn't matter what type of food you eat fyi. You get just as fat from 4k calories of bad food, as compared to 4k calories of good food.

Only rippetoe recommends eating that much? You do know rippetoe is the one who made the program?
You didn't adress my last post in this thread. Acording to you, Arnold was a "fat unaesthetic" lifter thanks to his routine choice.. not.

so I may be wrong is saying this but fuk it, going to throw it out there...

SS is a program designed for beginners to start building a solid foundation for the 3 basic compound lifts. Eats lots and continue increasing the weight and get strong.

Splits are designed for sculpting the body, training specific body parts on different days to promote muscle growth and leave adequate time for recovery.

So are you not just doing the equivalent of taking pictures of apples and oranges and saying "Look guys, these are different fruits"?

Pretty much that's what I'm doing. But the reason I'm doing it because people are recommending SS to people who want to focus on muscle and not strength.

Of course 2 different types of training will produce 2 different types of results. Neither is better than the other.. what I mean by that is, with SS you will be strong, and with a split you will be aesthetic. It all depends on what you want to do.

He did reg park's routine and other strength oriented routines back in the 60s. Reg park's routine is pretty damn similar to SS. You're just digging yourself deeper.
