Going Till Failure
Curious to see how many people go to failure every set. I've been doing this. If you don't what method would you recommend?

Never been to failure on a squat, bench, deadlift, or overhead press. Never purposefully gone to failure on assistance work, but sometimes it's hard to gauge.

If i had a spot i go to failure on bench, but try to make sure its on my 5th 8th or 10th rep. Depending on what im trying for.

Would you explain why? Does this mean that if I'm doing a set of, say shoulder press, and I can do 10 reps I should just stop at 8?

Usually 1 - 2 reps short of concentric failure.

strong hypothetical workout scenarios too
too bad you can't measure muscle damage by simply counting number of reps, then you're broken example might be legit

I do DC training without training to failure. Wanna compare pics? You registered on this forum 4 years before I started lifting, so hopefully you would have an advantage =D

then you aren't doing DC training
and if you started lifting in 2010, you aren't ready for DC training

I train to failure on benching all the time. Three weeks ago I was doing 25's on each side, now I am doing 35's on each side. Doing failures until I can finally put plates on each side and there-on forward!

Let's compare pics then bro. You the seasoned veteran with years of training under his belt. Me the rank novice who isn't doing the program that he isn't even ready for. Put up a pic man and I'll match it.

Perhaps he isn't the qualified sort to be giving advice, but if that's the case, since you are extremely smaller than he is, get your own head out of your ass and grow the hell up. Bitch more when you finally break 145.

i used to lift till failure every set but i did some research and found out that it's hard on your nerve system ( dont quote me on this though, could be wrong) also if you go to failure on the very first sets, you won't have the energy and power to lift heavy enough and you just wearing yourself out early, there is no reason to go to failure, you can still build muscle ..... I still do go to failure on the very last set of almost every exercise just to be sure and only if i have a spotter.

it's absolutely pointless to do so.

I know bro. I'm probably a tiny little weakling compared to you.
Do I even lift? My quads are probably smaller than your biceps

I always keep my reps around 12-8, except my first set on every lift: i generally try and hit 15 without a struggle. On my 2nd, and 3rd set i go to 1-2 reps below failure; however, on my last set i usually go to failure or very close to it with a long hold to really stretch/tear the muscle. i have seen GREAT results from this, i gained 15 lbs and lowered my BF % in 3.5 months. try this out, hope it works my man!

i made huge gains going to failure on the last set of every exercise. I did a modified blood and guts style training workout. Training to failure isnt bad its just youre not gonna be able to workout frequently. I think its best as a beginner to intermediate level which most of us still are, to focus on frequency and strength.
