Magnum, what do you use to polish these up? I'm cleaning a recent score from an antique shop. I found a gillette old type OC in the leather case with the blade box and mirror.... I need to post a few pics in here to show my quickly growing collection!

If there's rust and grime that's hard to remove, I use Evaporust and let the razors sit in that for a couple to a few days depending on how bad it is. If there's just old filth on it, I'll soak it in hot water and then scrub them with dish soap and a tooth brush.

When it's time to polish, I use Maas Metal Polish. You can't find anything like it at the store, so don't bother looking. I ordered a tube off Amazon and it's amazing stuff. Smells good too.

I also use Maas. I polish my wife's rings with it too (and my wedding band).

I got mine locally at Ace Hardware.

Mag, the razors are made of Brass which never rusts, if you do have rust on a razor it is from an old blade that was left on the razor. These razors are thinly plated and any over soaking [ in chemicals] can take away from the thin plating. The razor may lose some of the plating and the brass may show up prematurely within few months or years.

    alex,

I think the picture was taken at a weird angle. The one you labeled as a fatboy is actually a slim adjustable. I only have one fatboy and that is part of my personal collection. As a mater of fact, the one I own is the only one I've ever seen in person. I seem to find slim adjustables all over the place

Thumbs up Mike's Natural Soaps "Lime"!

Scent: (10/10): LIMEZZZ!!!! I have the TOBS Lemon-Lime and this scent blows it away...I like my TOBS Lemon Lime but this is just an amazing lime lest smell...If you like Limes/Citrus scent this stuff is crazy good!!

Lather: (8/10): Maybe just not trying real hard with this one but did exactly what I did last time with coconut and I just felt like I struggled to build the lather up compared to coconut....Still got good lather for a one pass shave so I didnt make alot extra...I will wth the bay rum since I have some bayrum soap already, mae some crazy lather....But it is harder with these samples to make a lather than is will be when you have the actual soap puck to swirl around on..
The other think I felt was the Lime was not quite as silky as coconut but just coulda been a lather issue overall...Im excited to mix coconut and lime, for scent and lather results

Shave: (9/10): Great one Pass shave with my featherSS/KAI Pink combo. Felt like coconut glided better but still super smooth and efficient with this! Really enjoyable..I look forward to making a big bowl of creamy lather and do a 2 pass BBS shave....one pass makes me smooth to touch and clean, but you and feel a tiny bristled if you go against grain, so when Im really wantin to impress the wife I do 2 pass and its all she wrote.

Price: (N/A) Was a sample so for a dollar sumthin, I love samples and applaud Mike for this! So to me price is right for the risk.

I have 12 samples in total and will give you my feedback on each!

    FYI:
I used Nivea's "Energy scrub" pre shave....if your not using this pre-shave, your doing it wrong. really helps so a smoother shave on my face plus it has helped me eliminate ingrown hairs.
I also used my Feather SS with a KAI Titan Mild Pink....Brahs all Ill say is this combo rivals any straight....

    and finalley for a Pic:

also a pic of my previous coconut sample:

Went on vacation but forgot my mug, so I guess the little yogurt container I found earlier will have to work!

Also, I'm loving the lather pics of Mike's soaps. Definitely going to be my next shaving-related purchase. Might be a while though since I have nearly a full large tub of TAOS sandalwood cream.

In regards to Derby blades, they are the blades that I learned with and still use fairly regularly. Actually, I have only used them and Feathers and have no problems with either. The feather is sharper of course, but the Derby works fine for my face/beard type. I might try Astras next time I need blades too.

LOL you are required to use a mug. I never use one. I get better lathers without on and it cuts down on time and cleaning.

and why on earth would you use a yogurt cup? Use your hands bro. Much better lather. You are over thinking things.

    Great review brah!

I find with the Mike's soaps I always need to keep adding water bit by bit to get the right consistency, much more water than I use with any other type of cream/soap. Once I hit the sweet spot though it's glorious mounds of rich lather. I have the tins of both Coconut and Lime on the way as well as more samples.

Haven't checked in here in a while. My collection is growing so quickly..... I must take a pic. I keep saying I will but I am going to tomorrow. I now have 6-7 DE's and a straight. I got the straight today in the mail and tried it out - I love it. Def worth trying. It was so enjoyable despite my lack of technique. Got a great shave in with only one WTG pass, I couldn't believe it. The audible feedback on a full hollow straight is music to my ears! Keep your eye on the BST on badgerandblade for a straight and pick one up cheap and try it out!

my order from Mike's came in today. I got three different shaving soap samples, but since I'm pretty happy with Proraso and Sandalwood creams I'm not too excited about it. I'm more interested in the soap and shampoo since I haven't found less harsh versions of those.

    Shaving Soap:

    Barber Shop
    Hungarian Lavender
    Unscented
    Coconut

    Body Soap:
    Barber Shop Shea Butter
    Honey and Grapefruit
    Orange, Clove and Cinnamon

    Shampoo:
    Lavender, Pepperment and Tea Tree

I tried the coconut shaving soap from Mike's, and it was heavenly. Great shave too.

The body and shampoo soaps were fantastic as well. I've already made another order.

I'm pulling the trigger on mikes soaps in tins.

I have not sampled, nor do IGAF.

I'm looking to buy 3, no more.. no less.

I have already decided that bay rum will be one of them. I was leaning towards coconut as well, but it seems he is out of the necessary ingredients. Any recommendations?

I also anticipate buying some Geo Trumper Skin Food as well as either lime or coconut TOBS shave cream sometime this week, and perhaps the Merkur Futur if I am daring. Leaning towards the coral Skin Food and the coconut cream. Was in Merz Apothecary and got two boxes of Polsilvers today, it was all they had. I was going to buy some of the stuff I just mentioned, but I only could pay with check today and they don't take checks.

Thumbs up MIKE's Natural Soaps "Bay Rum" and "Barber Shop"!

    BAY RUM

Scent: (??/10): SPICY SPICY. I cant really give this scnt a rating becuase it depends on your opinion of what Bay Rum should smell like. This smells like some super spicy spiced rum. Its an incredible smell very manly, and thick, but it is as i said "strong" and after leaving the package of the soap sample open in a drawer (to dry out a lil better) everything in that drawer smells like "BAY RUM" I had a rubber Muscle Pharm wrist band in there....its now a bay rumband. I think its an amazing scent formula, but its going to really be subjective. I personally..............luvs it.

Lather: (8/10): I was in a wild hurry and really just dropped the whole sample in my cup and swriled er round for about 15 seconds and started going to face....and actually we lathered quite nicely but I wont make any claims that I really built the lather to this one. But I am again impressed with the lathering ability of Mikes!

Shave: (9/10): Another great one Pass shave with my featherSS/KAI Pink combo. Smooth and efficient and not one nick with this! I only did the one pass becuase I was in a crazy hurry, but everything excpet this one annoying part of my chin was "smooth smooth" not BBS but "smooth".

Price: (N/A) Was a sample so for a dollar sumthin, I love samples and applaud Mike for this! So to me price is right for the risk.

    BARBER SHOP

Scent: (10/10): BARBER SHOP!!??!! Im not really sure what else they could hae called it but this stuff...to me...smellz amazing! Manly but not old, fresh, clean, bright, but with guts, like your grandpa, but not in a old fart kinda way, more like glory on the battle field of WWII kinda way.

Lather: (10/10): Decided to employ a new technique. I soaked my brush, put sample in hand, swirled about 10 seconds and started going to my face and hand back and forth...the result was a velvety thick lather with enough to spare on brush, that i went for a second pass.....this is the best way to work these samples IMHO, and I would say this will be how i lather my Mikes when I order, pul to face and maybe a lil hand if needed.

Shave: (10/10): Dat 2 pass BBS of peace. No nicks, no cuts, amazing smell...would latherd up my chest and went to town i was enjoying this soap so much, but i refrained. What are you doing even reading this review??? Go order this stuff already...lol. I will give credit where its also due...Im using a Feather SS with KAI Titan Pink blades and the sum of these parts is a glorious shave symphony.

Price: (N/A) Was a sample so for a dollar sumthin, I love samples and applaud Mike for this! So to me price is right for the risk.

realized filter on this pic didnt do lather justice, dern contrast filters, but twas amaze...
