the hit was a tad late plus he lifted his skates off the ground. IN the nhl he would have got a suspension.

The parents kept him out of school for that long to make it look more severe, so they would have a better chance of winning the case. A kid at my high school crashed his motorcycle and broke like 7 bones and was back at school in 2 weeks.

Hit was clean from what I saw. His head wasn't the principal point of contact nor did the player leave his feet to deliver the check (lolshanny). The concussion most likely occurred from hitting his head on the ice and not from the hit itself. That's just one of the risks you take when playing hockey. It is unfortunate that he got concussed but at the end of the day it appeared to be a clean hit.

I used to do that all the time to little idiots with their heads down, except I'd go for the chest not the head and knock the wind out of them. I was just finishing a perfectly legal hit.

“If this (check) was off the rink, on a public way, that is gross, negligent assault and battery,” - the whole point is that it didn't happen in the street. it's like arresting a boxer for knocking out his opponent. He's a hockey player so he knows what can happen to you when you play. All this kid's parents are doing is making him look like a big pussy.

Sounds like it was all the kid's parents. The quotes that came out yesterday:

A court magistrate determined Friday that there is no case for criminal charges after a Duxbury hockey player suffered a concussion in what is being described as a late hit during a high school hockey game. Scituate High School’s Alex Way was freed of any possible charges from the hit that left Duxbury’s Tucker Hannon with a severe concussion, which prevented him from attending school for five weeks.

“I’m sorry Tucker got a concussion and I’m sorry it got to this point,” said Way. “But other than that, I’m just glad it’s over.”

“Yes, it is very settled. The apology was accepted. I agree with him,” said Hannon.

“If that activity was done just outside this courthouse he would be serving time for assault and battery with a deadly weapon,” said Jay Mullen, Hannon’s attorney.

“I don’t think it should have gone to court. Easily he could have said sorry and it would have been settled. This is the last thing we wanted to do,” said Hannon

The attorney is an asshat.

People might get hit in hockey, but that wasn't an ordinary check. The guy accelerated to nail the other guy in the face. This guy would be fined and suspended in any major league.

There was nothing sportsmanlike about that hit.

concussions are pretty serious business. that hit was late and it looked like he went for his head. the guy is a *******, but i dont think suing him will accomplish anything. regardless, hits like that shouldn't be happening.
