So, seems people like flatter, more minimalist shoes for lifting. sounds great. i have been told that I pronate a bit, and need a stability shoe. This is for running, anyway. would this change for lifing? does anyone know if I could still use a minimalist/flat shoe?

I wear my Nike Frees for lifting, and K-Swiss "Ironman" for Running and Plyo... Love them both.

@Katie0615: Personally, I don't need a lot of support when lifting, but it might depend on what's comfortable for you.

some people need insoles when lifting...but thats pretty rare, most of the time youd have to go the dr to have them made

I see a number of guys lifting in Otomix shoes which are marketed towards martial artists and lifters. I've been thinking of getting a pair myself.

I over pronate/flat feet. I usually wear New Balance cross trainers or runners with/and without my orthotics because they seem to support my foot better. But for the first time today I took my Chuck Taylor's to the gym (leg day) OMG It was so much more comfortable and even squatting with the weight my ankles didn't totally meet the ground (like I thought they would if I didn't have arch support)
I swear, this 9 pounds better have been worth it.

    Lightbulb

I pretty much just wear my Asics running shoes, but the problem is that I'm supposed to replace my running shoes every 500 miles, and it only takes a couple months for me to run 500. So lifting probably wears them down. Whatever you do, I would suggest separating running shoes from lifting shoes...damaged running shoes could lead to injuries
Make a map of what you see, direct pain effectively.

Running shoes give you to much abrobtion when lifting, and you lose power. You need a solid surface. Chucks don't have much cushion. Thats why you see people lift in them
    +1

I'd like to add to that good info with often chucks are used because of there flat / thin soles, great ankle mobility and are cheap yet sufficient.

In regards to a good squat / deadlift / lunge... shoe, incompressible, flat, thin soles are ideal.
